Silhouette Granny Squares – free pattern!

It’s ‘Granny Square Day 2022‘… Yay! πŸ˜„ A wonderful occasion for the crochet community to come together online and celebrate all things crochet granny squares!

And this year, the lovely team at Simply Crochet Magazine asked me to be a ‘Granny Square Day Ambassador’. So here I am to promote and encourage all things β€˜Granny Square’ and in celebration, I’ve designed two all new ‘Sunset Silhouette’ Squares!! πŸ˜„

The patterns are further down in this blog post. Both squares use the same background pattern but with different yarns and of course different silhouettes! πŸˆβ€β¬›πŸ¬

A cat looking out the window at sunset…

And a dolphin jumping out of the water at sunset!

They’re not traditional granny squares but they are crocheted squares that are perfect for sharing on the Instagram grid, which is how Granny Square Day originated! Share your squares so that virtual granny square blankets can be created through the images on your screen. Squares made in the round, squares made in rows and everything in-between … anything goes! Here’s a grid of crocheted squares that I’ve designed over the years which also includes my two new silhouette ones…

They are both crocheted in the same base pattern but I used different yarns for each square, hence the size difference. I used Emu DK acrylic weight yarn and a 4mm hook for the cat square, whereas I used Scheepjes Cahlista Aran weight yarn with a 5mm hook for the dolphin.

And here’s the free pattern for my new sunset silhouette squares… enjoy!

  • I used: Emu Classic DK (100% Acrylic 100g/282m) Yarn A Glacier (143), Yarn B Lemon (149), Yarn C Sunburst (148), Yarn D Pumpkin (115), Yarn E Tiger (116), Yarn F Orchid (125), Yarn G Black (123), Yarn H White (101),
  • 4.0mm (US G/6) hook.
  • Dolphin Square:

  1. Fantastic granny squares. Love the black cat. I have a black cat called Sheila. Could this square be used in the postcards with love blanket? Just started the sunset squared so could maybe substitute a couple.x

  2. Gosh, so many beautiful things you made and yes, the coastal atmosphere is very present in your work….
What struck me as funny is that you use ‘Scheepjes’ yarns. Scheepjes is Dutch for little boats πŸ™‚

As cat and sea / ocean fan I’m definitely going to make the cat and dolphin squares, thank you for sharing
    Jo

  3. Thank you for the lovely patterns. By chance have you got a video tut on the cat?? I’m struggling πŸ˜“
