Mushroom Walk Scarf Day 2 – Hoping for a Fairy-tale Fungus!

Welcome to Day 2 of our mushroom walk… πŸ„

How wonderful to see so many of you start yesterday and share your progress over in the Facebook Group or on Instagram!

There are so many of you lovely people crocheting along and making this scarf – thank you so much and thank you for sharing your progress! I even managed to put together six round-up grids… that’s a lot of scarves – yay! πŸ˜€

Seeing them all brings a huge smile to my face and I hope it does for you too, seeing what all your fellow crocheters are doing! πŸ™‚

So let’s move onto Day 2… For those of you who have purchased the printer friendly pattern on Ravelry it has now been updated to include Day 2: https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/mushroom-walk-scarf

When we embark on a mushroom walk we really are hoping to spot some beautiful ones! Mushrooms, toadstools, fungi… whichever variations we see, deep down maybe we’re really hoping to spot a Fly Agaric!

The red spotty mushroom that features in so many childhood picture books. They really are picture perfect…

So today we’ll be crocheting creamy bobbles with a bright red background, which certainly gives a nod to the fairytale mushroom, the Fly Agaric!

Last year at the beginning of October 2022, we went for a walk in the woods and came across amazing Fly Agaric mushrooms – they were really beautiful ones! I’d never seen such good ones before, and I took all of these photos…

Seeing them all was certainly the start of this Mushroom Walk Scarf we’re now crocheting. Feeling really inspired by the all the beautiful mushrooms we saw that day, a scarf idea was born!

We returned to the same spot a couple of weeks ago and there weren’t any to be seen! Maybe it’s been too warm and dry? Maybe mushrooms don’t simply pop back up in the same spot each year… I have lots to learn!

We’re planning to head back later this month again so maybe we’ll see them… we’re certainly hoping for a fairy-tale fungus!

Although one of my sons took the photo below just last week, not too far from the same spot we were looking… so they are definitely about!

Now that we’re crocheting a mushroom walk scarf, are you seeing mushrooms everywhere?! πŸ„πŸ˜„ It’s always the way… maybe when something is on our minds we notice it more… well I’m certainly seeing mushroom related things pop up everywhere…

And I couldn’t resist a little cosy photo opportunity with a mushroom mug…

So let’s get crocheting!

Day 2

Hoping for a Fairy-tale Fungus!

The Fly Agaric, the quintessential mushroom, the one that might make us think of fairy tales and childhood picture books. Pretty and instantly recognisable but not always easy to find… wouldn’t it be lovely if we saw one on our mushroom walk!
