Osmond the Octopus… free pattern!

Hello Everyone…

Here’s a new design, hot off the hooks… meet Osmond the Octopus, a Baby Comforter! 🙂

The free pattern in UK and US terms is here… enjoy!

We welcomed a new baby into the family last Sunday when Holly, my niece, gave birth to a beautiful baby boy! It’s so very lovely to have a new baby in the family and of course I just had to crochet something… how could I not?! Sometimes a new crochet design comes about from these special moments in life… 😊💙

And a Baby Comforter it is… Holly gave permission for me to share this gorgeous photo of her beautiful baby boy together with his new octopus friend! Isn’t he just adorable… it’s a melt your heart photo for sure! 🙂

Do you call these a comforter? 🙂 I’ve seen them called a ‘Blankie’, ‘Lovey’, ‘Security Blanket’ but I seem to be drawn to ‘Comforter’. Anyhow, it’s an Octopus design which I’m really happy with, especially as there are the added twisty tentacles to give it that extra texture! Just perfect for a baby…

And here are my two Octopus samples photographed together with my Marilla the Mermaid design! I couldn’t resist, just before I gave one to Baby Harrison! 😊💙

I’m offering this Baby Comforter as a free pattern and it’s available below in both UK and US crochet terminology… just click on the links to take you to the printer friendly PDFs.

As always, a photo shoot on the beach beckoned and I made it down early in the morning for high tide. We’re very tide dependant where we live so I knew I had to get down to the beach early on this particular day otherwise the sea would be too far out…

It’s a wonderful time to be on the beach early in the morning… no one else around and the light is so very beautiful. I got carried away with photos… enjoy!

The driftwood sticks were very handy! 🙂

I hope you enjoy making one for a baby somewhere in the world… they don’t use up much yarn and it’s so much fun to mix and match with colours!

As you can see, my two look quite different! It’s amazing how each Octopus can be given such individual personalities depending on the placement of the eyes and the different yarns used…

Happy Crocheting Everyone… 🙂 🙂

  4. Hi Eleonora

What a beautiful baby. The octopus pattern is great, I have already downloaded it and have a’little person’ in mind to make it for. Thank you for allowing us that lovely pattern for free.

  5. So precious… (Both Osmond and the lil’ baby). Thank you so much Eleonora, I can’t tell you how inspiring and uplifting your blog is to me. We live in the Hogsback mountains in South Africa, and even as it is a beautiful and tranquil place to live in, one is a bit isolated, especially with lockdowns now. Your fresh and colourful ideas have sparked a new joy in my crocheting (busy with your Seaside Stash busting blanket) and I can’t wait to try to Octopus comforter as soon as I hear of a new baby nearby! Keep up the amazing creatitivy and many blessings to you.

  6. Cute gift. My girlfriend’s daughter just had a baby they named Harrison, wonder if this is going to be a popular name ?

  7. Love this, really love the orange one, maybe as you said, the eyes change it up, not sure but it really stands out to me. Great post thanks 😊

  8. Eleonora,
Your designs and creativity astound me! I can’t wait to make a baby Ozzie (Osmond) for our grandson! He’s just too cute and so is your new great nephew❣ Thank you so much for sharing your patterns with us. You have a gift for creating beautiful things and the world needs more generous people like you.

  9. About to find some wool, there’s a newish baby (three months) I have been wondering what to do for. However my fave photo was of the wet stones on your beach. Just love them and if I ever get the chance I will come to see them.
