It’s finally finished! I’ve teased you all with progress photos for quite a while now so I’m really pleased that I can at last share the completed project with you. I started this project about 3 months ago and it should have been a relatively quick make. However, it kept getting side-lined as I turned my hooks to crocheting other things. If I’d only crocheted this then it would have been finished a lot sooner!
I followed the pattern: ‘Hourglass Jacket’ by Jennifer Hansen which I found on Ravelry…
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/hourglass-jacket
It’s a fantastic pattern and I can highly recommend it. The only change I made was to add one row of broomstick crochet at the bottom to make it a little longer. It’s called a jacket but I keep calling it a cardigan (not sure what the difference should be!?) It fits so well and is certainly something I’ll enjoy wearing.
I used Cascade Yarns ‘Ultra Pima’ which is 100% cotton. I couldn’t get hold of the yarn recommended in the patten but this one seems to have substituted well.
I got the buttons from a John Lewis haberdashery department and I love the textured metal.
I popped down to the beach yesterday evening with my husband, children and dog to take these photos. They’ve all become quite accustomed to me taking my crochet everywhere as well as taking photos (although my 14 year old son would have disowned me if he’d seen anyone he knew down there!!) This time it was my husband who had to be the photographer and he had to take A LOT of photos before I was happy with a straight horizon!
This is my final project to be submitted for the International Diploma in Crochet. I now have just a few more samples to do (including Hairpin crochet which is another technique I have not tried before) so I’m nearly there…
Thanks for looking and Happy Crocheting… 🙂
Congratulations! The cardigan is beautiful and so are you!
Love those buttons too.
Awww, thanks so much, that’s really kind of you to say! The buttons are great aren’t they. I wish we had a John Lewis store nearer to us, I was really impressed with their haberdashery 🙂
Well done ! it looks so stylish !
Thanks so much Marion! It’s a great pattern 🙂
Thats gorgeous!
Thank you so much 🙂
Wow. Crochet envy, this is Fab U Lous!
Thanks so much Cathy! I can’t take all the credit as it really was a fabulous pattern to follow 🙂
That’s really beautiful and wearable too. Great job and so neat. 😊
Thanks so much! Yes, it’s definitely wearable- a great pattern from Stitch Diva Studios 🙂
Fabulous! I’m sure you will get marked a “very good” at the very least, if not an “excellent”! You’re nearly done with Part 1 now – I’m wouldn’t be surprised if you finished Part 2 before me! I’m looking forward to seeing what you come up with when you start designing… 🙂
Awww, thanks so much, that’s really kind of you! How are you getting on with Part 2? I actually went up to Morecambe last weekend to attend one of Pauline Turner’s ‘teaching courses’. It was great to meet her and she very inspiring and encouraging. 🙂
Part 2 has ground to a halt! I’m detouring into knitting for a while…
Good for you! Too many crafts and not enough time 🙂 I used to do a lot of knitting but I’ve now detoured into crochet! 🙂
This is amazing and totally beautiful! Nothing I make ever seems to fit me as well as this fits you. Good choice of colour, too – neutral is best with an heirloom item like this which you’ll never want to date.
Thanks so much! I have to give all of the credit to ‘Stitch Diva Studios’ who designed the pattern. I followed the pattern pretty much to the word and the fit as you say is great. 🙂 🙂
This is absolutely beautiful! Lovely photo’s too 🙂
Awww, thanks so much, really kind of you 🙂
Congratulations! It’s beautiful and looks like a perfect fit. I’m sure you’ll get top marks. Xx

Thanks so much. Yes, I’m pleased with the end result but I have a great pattern to thank! 🙂
Lovely! I’ve made a broomstick lace scarf before but not thought of a cardigan before, you’ve inspired me!
Thanks so much- I’m happy to have inspired you!
