Soundwave Cushions… a fun crochet project!

Here’s a fun crochet project for you… one to squeeze in before Christmas maybe?! 😃

These are my Soundwave Cushions – a pair of colourful cushions, each with different front and back panels making them fully reversible – which side will you choose!? 😃

One side of each cushion is crocheted using four solid colours of Emu Classic DK and a variety of fun crochet stitches…

The other side of each cushion is crocheted using a brand new gorgeous colour changing yarn called ‘Elements Amplify’. I’ve used a different technique in each cushion for when the colour change in this yarn is reached, creating two very different effects… lots of crochet fun and I absolutely loved creating these!

Kits with all the yarn you need plus the printed pattern in full for both cushions are available now from the Knitting Network. I earn a small amount of commission for each kit sold:

The pattern on its own is also available direct from me in both UK and US terms:

And there are other colourways too which is exciting…

Here’s the ‘Country’ colourway…

Elements ‘Amplify’ comes in a range of music inspired colourways. Each shade creates a one-of-a-kind short stripe effect that echoes the rhythmic pulse of music! It’s really lovely to crochet with.

Colour changing yarns can have very varying results in crochet, depending on the lengths of the colour changes in the yarn and which crochet stitches are used. Sometimes they might be more suited to knitting. But I really wanted to use a different technique by letting the yarn itself determine the stitches to use and therefore creating amazing colour effects… I really am so happy with the results!

It’s really fun because rather than following a rigid pattern, the yarn itself is letting you know when to change stitches… it’s mindful, relaxing crochet but anticipating that next colour change keeps you on your toes too… it was so enjoyable and I love it!

I was approached by the team at The Knitting Network to create a pair of cushions using the new Elements Amplify colour changing yarn in combination with Emu Classic DK and I’m so glad I said yes!

Last Friday provided a perfect opportunity for a photoshoot on the beach… at this time of year you really do have to grab the opportunity if it comes your way as sunsets on the beach have been few and far between recently.

My daughter was around too which was brilliant. I always need someone else to take the photos with me in them! 🥰🙏

For the rest of the weekend the sun disappeared and we had stormy weather with plenty of wind and rain (snow in many places too) so it really was a perfect window in time…

So there you go… this is the final new design from me in 2024! 😃

Next year is Coastal Crochet’s 10 year anniversary!! That’s something special and I have many exciting things planned to celebrate this milestone…

Happy Crocheting Everyone! 💙
