Introducing Woodland Wonders…

Let’s have a drum roll please… 😃

I’m absolutely delighted and super excited to introduce the new 2024King Cole’ blanket crochet-along which I have designed…

Here is ‘Woodland Wonders’!

A blanket inspired by a wander through the woods enjoying the woodland wonders!

Beautiful trees, carpets of bluebells, little acorns and the changing colours of the autumn leaves are just some of the woodland wonders captured in crochet!

The middle section of the blanket also has a strip of crocheted squares, it’s here that woodland sunflowers, fairy-tale mushrooms and even an adorable sleeping fox can be seen… oh I’m sooooo happy with how my little fox turned out! 🦊

Ok… my photo below of a fox isn’t in woodland but I do love how I captured this fox waking from sleep by the sea last October… I always use my own photos and didn’t have any other fox photos! 😃

The crochet-along will start on Friday 7th June 2024 and will be released in 6 weekly instalments. The pattern will be free on the King Cole website: https://www.kingcole.com/woodland-wonders-a-crochet-along-blanket/

And to enjoy all the fun, see people’s progress, share photos, get ideas and ask any questions for help and support please do join the Facebook Groups:

There’s the King Cole Craft Along CAL group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/KingColeCAL/

And there’s my Coastal Crochet group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1998235366871590/

Both are very friendly online spaces that really enhance the crochet-along experience! And over on Instagram you can share using the hashtags #woodlandwondersblanket #kingcolecal and #coastalcrochetcal

Do tag me @CoastalCrochet too, so that I can see your photos – I always love to see them…

King Cole stockists everywhere will be able to get yarn packs in. Why not visit your local yarn shop… Here’s the shopping list you’ll need to get ready:

There are two versions of the blanket using two different King Cole yarns.

King Cole Cottonsoft DK and King Cole Big Value DK. There are some variations in the colours between the yarns. Some colours are very similar and share the same colour name, whereas others are slightly different. All the colours for both versions have been carefully chosen.

Here’s the blanket in King Cole Cottonsoft DK:

And here’s the blanket in King Cole Big Value DK:

The blanket is crocheted predominantly in rows which is different to the King Cole crochet-along blankets I’ve designed in previous years. It’s always fun to mix things up and try new techniques!

It’s been an absolute joy to design and crochet this blanket and immerse myself in the woodland theme. 💚

Most of the photos I’ve taken have been over the last few months of an English winter. But the woodlands are now emerging into spring and I’ve finally been able to get some different photos. The woodlands have beauty through all the seasons…

It’s been such a design pleasure and I hope that many of you will decide to crochet-along.

We now have plenty of time to prepare and get ready… it’s still 8 weeks before the crochet-along starts but I think it’s nice to share projects ahead of time.

It means that people can plan ahead, have time to think about yarn choices and colours, it builds a little excitement and there’s time for yarn orders to be made (you can of course use any yarns you like to join in and the pattern will be free).

Amanda from Mrs G Makes has created specially designed stitch markers too which are simply perfect! Amanda has created co-ordinating stitch markers for many of my blankets over the years and it adds a little something…

Announcing the crochet-along well in advance also means there’s time to finish off any projects or squeeze a few other projects in before the crochet-along starts!

I have one of those projects to announce on Monday! My Rockpool Wrap is being released on Monday with kits available immediately. Can’t wait to show you that one too… I told you my hooks have been busy! 😃

Thank you as ever for all your support and for following along. Let’s finish with a Salty photo… Salty amongst the bluebells back in 2019… 💜💜💜 She adored woodland walks!

Happy Crocheting Everyone…🩵

  14. This the first project that has peaked my interest since my husband’s death in 2022. I think it will be a healing for me. The woods and the fox are a big part of my life. Thank you for leaving the coast for a bit. I pray you receive many blessings from your glorious works.

  15. I was wondering if it would be possible to have a few rows of embroidered french knot grape hyacynths in blue and with green leaves. That photo of a long pathway of them was magic. I tried to crochet a few rows with 3 stitch nups but it was in the end to much of a tangle, and the result did not resemble a grape hyacynth at all. The woods look so beautiful and the blanket is for me is a must do.

  16. Have ordered my yarn, looking forward to getting started!! Just love the colours.
