Picnic on the Beach Week 3

It’s Week 3 of our ‘Picnic on the Beach’ blankets… and this week it’s all about the picnic food! 🙂

This has to be one of my favourite weeks… not only because tucking into delicious food is a wonderful part of any picnic… but oh how I adored designing these food inspired rows. A real crochet design challenge which I fully embraced and enjoyed! 🙂

We begin with the rows of green textured stitches…are they salad leaves, apples, pears, olives or grapes? I’ll let you decide…

We then have strawberries and blackberries…

And yes, we have scrumptious cherry topped cupcakes too! Or are they Cherry Bakewells? I do love a Bakewell tart… 🙂

All these textured crochet stitches are created by using varying combinations of raised stitches… that’s your Front and Back Post stitches in the US. I just love crocheting them and the various effects that can be achieved are truly amazing! 🙂

And here’s my Week 3 introductory video which I filmed on the beach during sunset last weekend. It was a particularly beautiful sunset… really special! Enjoy the footage…

So what’s your favourite kind of picnic food? Do you like to prepare things from scratch, cook special recipes or do you buy ready made treats from the shops? We have a ‘Greggs’ bakery near to us and in the days before Covid when our weekends often meant going out for the day, we’d pop into Greggs and buy some of their delicious baguettes to take with us for a quick and easy picnic! 🙂

I spend far too much time focussing on my crochet endeavours to be able to focus too much on improving my cooking skills… 🙂 So if any of you have some quick, easy and inspiring picnic recipes or good old family favourites then I’d love to hear about them! Do share them in the Facebook Group or over on Instagram using the hashtags #picniconthebeachcal and #picniconthebeachblanket

Here are some knitted foods that my dear friend Lindsay sent me to celebrate the launch of our ‘Picnic on the Beach’ crochet along… aren’t they adorable! ❤️

And here’s the weekly round-up of photos shared over on Instagram and in the Facebook Group… 🙂

Week 2 really was a lovely week of crocheting waves… 🌊🌊🌊 And so many fabulous photos are being shared… thank you! 😍 I particularly love the springtime flowers, picnic baskets, foods, furry friends and some stunning outdoor locations that are being shared!

And here are some photos I took whilst on the beach at the weekend… a beautiful sunset indeed!

So lets get crocheting our picnic food inspired rows…

  1. Eleonora, thank you so much for the absolutely wonderful video of the sunset over the sea. Very professionally done and truly sublime. My hubby and I watch your videos each week, like we did last year. They are the highlight of our lockdown week. Salty is totally adorable watching the sunset too so thanks for featuring Salty each week. I am not crocheting along this year, although I did last year, but I am doing the SSSB. I love the Picnic blanket though but not sure my brain is up to it. Maybe later in the year when things are more normal. The colours of the sea and the sun and the sky on the video were beautiful so I might try the sunset blanket next.
Anyway, thank you so much for our trip to the seaside. So glad the CAL is being enjoyed by so many all over the world. I follow in the fb group too. Have a great weekend!

    1. Thank you so much for sharing these kind words too Pamela! Apologies for delay in this response… really happy you enjoyed the sunset! It’s a nice thought to know you and your husband enjoy watching the beach together! 🥰💙💙

      1. We always look forward to Friday mornings and your videos whilst having a morning coffee. Love the sea, the crochet, Salty and your smiling face. A real tonic. Thanks again.

  2. I’m absolutely loving this CAL. Your website and all your videos are so beautiful. I haven’t crocheted for years, but I’m now learning so much more.
For Christmas I bought a picnic bag which I filled with festive fayre to take to my son and his family in Berlin. Sadly we weren’t able to fly and my husband and I have since eaten the contents of the bag. I’m so excited to now be able to provide a picnic blanket which hopefully we’ll be able enjoy together later this year.
    Thankyou Eleonora for your inspiration.

  3. Hi Eleonora. I have just finished watching your videos and tutorials and looking at your amazing photos. I can’t wait to get started on this week’s work. Your designs are such a delight and there is no chance of getting bored. So many interesting stitches and textures. Your blankets are a delight to make. I enjoyed my little trip to the coast. I always find it so relaxing. I adore little Salty, she is such a treasure and you have such a lovely calming voice, it is a pleasure to listen to. Thank you again for all your hard work

    1. Hi Marilyn! Thank you so much… I’m really happy you’re enjoying it! And yes, Salty is a little treasure! I was happy that the sunset video worked out… the weather couldn’t be more opposite right now… and the sea looks fierce!! 🥰🌊🌊🌊🌊

  4. I’ve just received the yarn today and as I don’t do Facebook I’ll follow the pattern and how to’s from a Word document where I collect the instructions and images at each stage – Thanks for being so precise – I love this blanket and I know exactly the right friend who’ll love it for her picnics.
