Coastal Coasters CAL… Day 5

It’s the final day of my mini ‘Coastal Crochet Coasters’ crochet along! What a wonderful five days of crochet it’s been… seeing all the little coasters pop up on my social media has been an absolute joy! Thank you to each and every one of you that has taken part and made it such a lovely crochet along… 🙂 🙂

So we end our set of coasters with a hexagon shape… our fifth and final coaster is a simple design which I’ve crocheted in shades of blue like the bluest of seas! 💙🌊

These photos were taken in beautiful Corfu last year (before Covid when we didn’t need to worry about our travels) and I wrote a blog post all about it which you can read here…

You can of course crochet your coaster in any colours you like… I’ve loved seeing all the variations throughout this CAL!

For all the coasters I used: Scheepjes Cahlista (100% cotton, 50g/85m), 1 ball in each of the following colours: Yarn A Crystalline (385), Yarn B Rich Coral (410), Yarn C Vivid Blue (146), Yarn D Lemonade (403), Yarn E Cyan (397), Yarn F Snow White (106), a 3.5mm hook (or hook size to suit your tension), yarn needle, scissors.

Abbreviations: UK Crochet Terminology is used (see bottom of page for US terms).

ch: chain, ch-sp(s): chain space(s), dc: double crochet, htr: half treble, mm: millimetres, RS: right side, ss: slip stitch, st(s): stitch(es), tr: treble, WS: wrong side, yoh: yarn over hook.

Hexagon Coaster

Pattern Notes

This is a hexagon shaped coaster. The RS of the work is facing you at all times.

To Work:

Using Yarn E make 4ch, ss to first ch to join into a ring.

Round 1 4ch (counts as 1 tr and 1 ch), (1tr into centre of ring, 1ch) five times, ss to top of first 3 ch to join. [6 sts and 6 x 1-ch-sps]

Round 2 ss into next 1-ch-sp, 3ch (counts as first tr here and throughout), 2tr in same ch-sp, 1ch, miss next st, (3tr in next 1-ch-sp, 1ch, miss next st) five times, ss to top of first 3 ch, fasten off. [6 x groups of 3 tr with 6 x 1-ch-sps]

Round 3 Join Yarn A into any 1-ch-sp, 3ch, 1tr in next st, 3tr in next st, 1tr in next st, * 1tr in next 1-ch-sp, 1tr in next st, 3tr in next st, 1tr in next st, repeat from * four times, ss to top of first 3 ch, fasten off. [36 sts]

Round 4 Join Yarn C into any central st from the 3 tr groups, 5ch (counts as 1 tr and 2 ch), 1tr into same st, *1tr in each of next 2 sts, miss next st working 1tr spike st in 1-ch-sp below it from Round 2, 1tr in each of next 2 sts, ** (1tr, 2ch, 1tr) all in next st, repeat from * five times ending final repeat at **, ss to third ch of beginning 5 ch, fasten off. [7 sts on each side with 6 x 2-ch-sps]

Round 5 Join with Yarn E into any 2-ch-sp, 3ch, 2tr into same ch-sp, * 1tr in next st, 1htr in next st, 1dc in each of next 3 sts, 1htr in next st, 1tr in next st, ** 3tr in next 2-ch-sp, repeat from * five times ending final repeat at **, ss to top of first 3 ch, fasten off and weave in ends.

Round 4 Join Yarn C into any central st from the 3 dc groups, 5ch (counts as 1 dc and 2 ch), 1dc into same st, *1dc in each of next 2 sts,  skip next st working 1dc spike st in 1-ch-sp below it from Round 2, 1dc in each of next 2 sts, ** (1dc, 2ch, 1dc) all in next st, repeat from * five times ending final repeat at **, sl st to third ch of beginning 5 ch, fasten off.
