Beachcombing Blanket – Week 7

Welcome to Week 7 of my ‘Beachcombing Blanket’ crochet along. Oh how wonderful it has been to see so many of your squares come together! 🙂 It’s finally starting to look like a blanket… 💙

And I’m really excited about the video I managed to record this week… it’s a little longer than my previous ones because I take you around the chalk cliff headland and there are some wonderful beachcombing discoveries to show you… enjoy!

You’ll see in the video that I saw the most beautiful sea anemone in one of the rock pools. I’ve since discovered that it’s called a ‘Beadlet anemone’ and you can read more about it here… WildlifeTrusts.org

The round-up of photos shared this week was always going to be one of my favourite weeks! Seeing all these beautiful squares come together is a joy… 🙂 I really struggled narrowing down the photos for the round-up – there are just so many fabulous photos being shared over on Instagram and in the Facebook Group

And before we move onto this weeks pattern, here are some beautiful photos I’d like to share from an evening cliff top walk earlier this week. The sea was incredibly calm and the setting sun provided such a beautiful light. With the seagulls flying along the cliff top too, it really gave some lovely photo opportunities! 🙂

So let’s move onto to this weeks instalment… 😊 We will crochet the second side panel and then the starting rows of both the top and bottom panels. These rows will form the foundation for the next few weeks as we will continue to work on the top and bottom panels.

Don’t worry if the edges to your side panels aren’t completely straight… as we build up the blanket over the coming weeks all these beautiful stitches will ease together… 🙂

Abbreviations

ch: chain

dc: double crochet

htr: half treble

mm: millimetres

RS: right side

ss: slip stitch

st(s): stitch(es)

tr: treble

WS: wrong side

Week 7 – Second Side Panel and starting rows of Top and Bottom Panels

Side Panel 2

Repeat instructions for Side Panel 1 (go to Week 6) on opposite side edge of blanket.

Here’s a tutorial for the starting rows of the Top and Bottom Panels.

Top Panel

The start of the top panel will be crocheted into the side edge of the side panel, inserting your hook around the post of the end stitches. Then continue across the three squares and finally across the side edge of the opposite side panel.

Row 1 With RS facing and starting at the top of the blanket join Yarn H to outer top right corner to side of Row 12 of the side panel, 1ch (does not count as st), 2dc in side of Row 12, 2dc in side of Row 11, 1dc in side of Row 10, miss side of Row 9, 1dc in each side of Rows 8 and 7, 3dc in side of Row 6, 1dc in each side of Rows 5 and 4, miss side of Row 3, 1dc in each side of Rows 2 and 1, 1dc in corner ch-sp of first square, *1dc in each st across square to next corner ch-sp, 1dc in each of next 2 corner ch-sps, repeat from * once more across second square, 1dc in each st across third square to final corner ch-sp, 1dc in corner ch-sp, 1dc in each side of Rows 1 and 2, miss side of Row 3, 1dc in each side of Rows 4 and 5, 3dc in side of Row 6, 1dc in each side of Rows 7 and 8, miss side of Row 9, 1dc in side of Row 10, 2dc in side of Row 11, 2dc in side of Row 12, turn. [187 sts]

Row 2 2ch (counts as first htr), 1htr in next st and each st to end, join with Yarn F at end of final st, turn. [187 sts]

Row 3 1ch (does not count as st), 1dc in first st and each of next 3 sts, 1htr in each of next 3 sts, 1tr in each of next 3 sts, 1htr in each of next 3 sts, * 1dc in each of next 8 sts, 1htr in each of next 3 sts, 1tr in each of next 3 sts, 1htr in each of next 3 sts, repeat from * nine times, 1dc in each of final 4 sts (pay attention to crochet into the final htr from previous row and the top of the beginning 2 ch), turn. [187 sts]

Row 4 1ch (does not count as st), 1dc in first st and each st to end, join with Yarn D at end of final st, turn. [187 sts]

Bottom Panel

Repeat instructions for Top panel on opposite end of blanket.

Weave in all ends.
