Here’s a blog post about a very special crochet project that I’m really happy to share with you all! I’ve finally got around to crocheting Salty into one of my designs!! 🙂
Oh how I adored designing this Tunisian Crochet Schnauzer Cushion for Issue 94 of Simply Crochet magazine which is out now!
And it made it onto the front cover too…. yay! 🙂
As always, there’s quite some time between me finishing a design and then finally seeing it in print. This cushion was on my hooks last summer and these photos were taken on a very very hot and muggy day in July. Hence Salty had her tongue out panting to keep cool, just like her crocheted counterpart! 🙂
Here’s a little snapshot of my original design proposal…
When designing my crochet I always let my hooks try a few ideas… my original sample was made using Lily ‘Sugar ń Cream’ with a fluffy border in King Cole ‘Luxe Fur’.
But I have since discovered that when designing for magazines, each project should ideally contain yarns from only one yarn company… they prefer not to mix and match brands. I needed a fluffy yarn for the edging and some of you may remember I used Stylecraft ‘Eskimo’ for my Seaside Stash Busting Blanket…
Looking at the range of colours in Stylecraft Special Aran, there was an orange that I was really happy with… so Stylecraft it became for my finished design! I made the main cushion using Stylecraft ‘Special Aran’ with a fluffy border in Stylecraft ‘Eskimo’…
Here is the cushion inside the magazine, styled by the Simply Crochet team…
I had fun taking photos on the beach with Salty and the cushion together before I sent it off last summer…
With this one being my favourite photo…
I’m very much looking forward to getting this cushion back from the team at Simply Crochet. Designers usually get their samples returned to them a few months after being published. It will then have pride of place on our sofa!!
In other news, Salty and I went on a little crochet adventure to Bristol today…
I can’t wait to be able to share more about that in the coming months… it was fabulous and very special! I love that my crochet gets me around… 🙂
Thank you for following along and Happy Crocheting Everyone! 🙂
Great project. I am always amazed at how Sally is so happy to have her photo taken.
