Trivento 2019 ‘Yarn Bombing Day’…

This is a fun and exciting project that’s been on my hooks these last couple of months!

I was approached over on Instagram in January by Daniela, known as @punto_mamma on Instagram, from Italy. Daniela explained the following…

“This year, in August, we are organizing International Yarn Bombing Day. The event will be a full day and includes paths between installations, workshops and market with crocheter/knitter artists.

The location of the event is a very characteristic place in Italy called Trivento in the Molise hills. Would you like to create a yarn bombing project?  I know that you’re in the outside area and you are unable to come, but there are artists who will send in a little work. Could this be interesting for you? Tks 😊”

Daniela shared the following recording from last years event…

Doesn’t it look fabulous?! And this year there are over 60 Designers taking part from all over the world, each contributing something crocheted or knitted for display … How could I resist?! 😊 So I replied yes, and got thinking about what I could create and send off to Italy. I have a big yarn stash so decided to make something using only yarns which I already had. And the idea of a coastal scene (of course!) came to mind. And here was my little introduction over on Instagram…img_8828

The ‘Pebble Lace’ stitch is featured in my Changing Tides CAL. It’s a beautifully textured stitch but it is time consuming and uses a lot of yarn… you may think I would have had enough of this stitch, but no… my contribution for the Trivento Yarn Bombing Day started with some pebbles…

Followed by some more textured stitches to resemble sand…

And then one of my very favourite stitches,  ‘Long Wave’ stitch…

Some simple half treble (US half double crochet) stitches for sky…

And then I did a border using some ‘Mermaid DK’ from Marriner Yarns

And now the fun began… it was time to bring this backdrop to life! 🙂

Firstly the sun…

Then a seagull…

A starfish…

A palm tree…

A beach hut…

A sailing boat…

And finally a couple more seagulls!

I absolutely LOVE how it turned out… 🙂

I made this little slideshow video to show its progress step by step…

The finished piece is actually a nice baby blanket size, as you can see from me holding it here…

I ended by attaching a little ‘Coastal Crochet’ tag before posting it off to Italy back in May, in plenty of time for August…

I can’t wait to see photos of the event which is next weekend on 9th and 10th August. We will be camping in Europe at the same time as the event and I momentarily thought about driving down to Italy to see it all, but it’s just too far on this occasion!

I have already shared photos of this over on my Instagram and Facebook page… lots of people have asked for the pattern so I have been working on it and plan to release it to coincide with the actual event in Italy… so do visit my blog on 9th August if you’re interested! 🙂

This project is another example of crochet bringing people together from all over the world… over 60 designers contributing pieces from so many different countries. To have all this art come together in Trivento Italy will surely be wonderful!

Happy Crocheting Everyone… 😊❤️

  1. Absolutely love it. Would make a nice wall hanging in my caravan by the sea. Will look out for the pattern. Thanks for all your hard work Eleonora. X

  2. Will definitely have a go if you do a pattern.
    You are so productive
I love that almost everything is coastal
    Thanks

  3. Eleanora – I think children love it, too! So much so that I wrote a children’s book called “Yazzy’s Amazing Yarn” — about a girl who wants to add warmth and color to her neighborhood park. I hope you’ll check it out. 🙂 Cathey Nickell

      1. Aw that’s true – I don’t think Amazon will ship my books there. Darn! Thank you though for checking it out!
