My parents-in-law celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Friday! Isn’t that special… 50 years of marriage together! πβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
And me being me I just had to incorporate a little crochet into their Golden Wedding gift! So in this blog post I’ll show you what we made…
I had the idea to make a special wall hanging which their 5 grandchildren (three are mine), their 2 sons (one is my husband) and 2 daughter-in-laws (Iβm one of those!) contribute to… a real family team effort!
To start with we needed a frame and my daughter spotted this basic frame with little clips whilst on holiday in The Netherlands. It measures 58 x 58cm so is a good size…
We got some photos ready and then everyone did something personal on a little piece of card- either drew a little picture, wrote a poem or a few words – ready to be hung on the clips (the ones shown in the photo are from the shop for display purposes).
To make the frame a little more special and suitable for a Golden Wedding, I spray painted it with gold paint…
And I also had the idea to decorate the frame with crochet flowers!! πΉπΉπΉ I did some undercover investigations and discovered that my mother-in-law had red roses and white freesias in her wedding bouquet 50 years ago…
So I wanted to crochet roses and freesias – luckily my sister-in-law, niece and daughter can crochet so we all agreed to crochet a few roses per day until we had enough!! πΉπΉπΉ And I played around with freesia designs…
Ok… these arenβt perfect as theyβre crocheted in a thick white acrylic yarn which I already had as I wanted them to be a similar size to the roses, but Iβll perfect the design and write the pattern up one day!
As for the roses… I used my previous pattern Crochet Roses and added some gold thread too…
I had a play around with the flowers and initially thought to fill the whole frame…
…but time was running out and oh there were so many roses to crochet!! My husband then suggested crocheting just 50 roses (50 for a Golden Wedding!) and put them in a heart shape around the frame… great idea!
So my sister-in-law and niece crocheted lots of roses and popped them in an envelope for me…
And then by Friday we had 50 red roses!! I couldn’t resist photographing them like this in a heart shape…
And then I put all the bits together on the frame and put some glue on all the flowers ready to be attached…
…before it was finally finished. A gift that their family had all contributed to! πβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
We enjoyed a lovely evening of celebrations and I think they liked their gift…
… crochet can certainly brighten the world!
Happy Crocheting Everyone! πβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ

Wow! Fabulous project, Eleonora! Iβm sure your parents-in-law loved it. The roses look brilliant placed in a heart shape but as you arranged them around the frame they also decorate it and the memories perfectly.

Absolutely Jenny… the roses in a heart shape are perfect but it was all about the little messages and photos so it worked well like this too… πβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ xxx
What a beautiful idea. It’s so easy just to go out and buy presents these days. That makes something that you’ve thought about, and especially cooperated as a family to make, all the more special.
Awww Wynny, I completely agree… thank you so much! πβ€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
