Here’s a new blanket design from me which is an exciting collaboration with independent yarn shop ‘Ida’s House’ in Lewes! 😊

And excitingly I’m very happy to announce that I am going to be at Ida’s House for the day on Saturday 8th March together with my Coastal Calm Blanket (and a few others 😉).

There will be special workshops running in the morning and afternoon for people to start the first squares with me there. These workshops are being taught by my dear friend Amanda from Nanny Bears Crochet but I’ll also be there to chat and help. It’s going to be really fun and I’m hoping to meet lots of people throughout the day!

So let me tell you more about this design…

Ida’s House opened in Lewes, an historic town in East Sussex, nearly a year ago. A big chunk of my childhood was spent growing up in Lewes and we still visit regularly so it was really wonderful to see a new yarn shop there.

Last summer the owner Jayne approached me and conversations started about how we could collaborate and the idea for a blanket was born.

Jayne would supply me with all the yarn needed for this new blanket design, we’d showcase the blanket at a special ‘trunk show’ day in the shop and the blanket would live in Ida’s House shop for lots of people to see but the pattern would only be available from my Ravelry and Etsy… so everyone benefits!

I really liked this idea! It was something a little different, something to support a small independent yarn shop and I would be using yarns I haven’t crocheted with before. I couldn’t wait to get started…

I wanted to go all out coastal for this blanket and chose these gorgeous coastal colours of the Filcolana Peruvian. It’s an Aran weight 100% wool yarn making the blanket ever so warm, soft and cosy. It’s been a real joy to crochet with…

The blanket is made up of six different square designs which are each crocheted in varying quantities before the total 25 squares are joined together.

Fewer squares can also be put together as cushion covers. People don’t have to make the full blanket, and of course the crocheted squares can be used for lots of other fun projects too!

And there’s not an appliqué in sight! The sea creature shapes are all cleverly incorporated into the crochet squares. With wave squares, shells, starfish and sea turtles, as well as a traditional granny stitch border, a little coastal calm is certainly enjoyed.

Even exhilarating days along the coast can be calming and provide food for the soul. Coastal calm doesn’t necessarily mean calm seas although on this particular day back in January it was definitely calm…
