Yarn Bombing Festival – Milan Edition! 🇮🇹

I do love a yarn bomb! A little piece of yarn craft left out and about for others to enjoy… ❤️ And the ultimate ‘Yarn Bombing Festival’ is hosted each year in Italy by the fabulous group ‘Yarn Bombing Trivento’.

The annual festival showcases a wide variety of different yarn bombs which line the streets… from huge and elaborate displays to little contributions too. It’s really wonderful! And the pieces are then sold to raise money for a local charity…

This year from 11th – 13th June, the festival is being hosted in Milan! 🇮🇹

Over 100 artists from all over the world have contributed a piece and the streets have been lined with such amazing yarn creations!

I was super excited to see it actually hanging in Milan in a couple of photos shared on social media yesterday by people visiting the festival… there it is in the sunshine, with a beautiful terracotta coloured wall as a backdrop!

There are such fabulous artists from all over the world taking part…

And I feel very privileged to be amongst them… 💙

So here’s a little more about my yarn bomb… 🙂

I decided to use super chunky yarn and a 12mm hook. I only had a limited amount of time to work on this project so by using chunky yarn and a big hook the piece would grow quickly to a good size…

And I crocheted a big mandala with a sunny centre…

To give you an idea of size, here’s little Salty sitting on it… it’s big and it’s heavy!

With the sun at the centre, my piece represents the sun with the world around it… so I added fish for the ocean…

Some birds for the sky…

And then a watchful eye at the centre!

One of the themes for the festival is ‘Social Phobia’ and over 1000 eyes were crocheted by people all over the world and sent in for a huge display…

So I really wanted to add an eye to my yarn bomb!

It’s a reminder that we need to watch out for our world and have our eyes opened as to how we can make the world around us a better place…

I really enjoyed crocheting my yarn bomb. It’s a simple design and I’m happy with how it turned out.

How lovely it must be to stroll through the streets of Milan and see all these amazing yarn creations!

I’ve developed the pattern for my yarn bomb a little further and I made another sunny mandala in a 4ply yarn using a 3mm hook – just look at the size difference!

This can be used as a little table mat for a vase of flowers…

And I’ve also crocheted another super chunky version and this time I have changed it into a square! I’ve then created a rectangle and have made a super chunky blanket… I’ll share more about that soon!
