Book Review – Crocheted Succulents…

I’ve done a few book reviews during the last year. I just love books and of course books filled with crochet are worth looking at! Yes, there are so many patterns available online and yes, there are lots of magazines filled with patterns out there too, but a themed book with a selection of patterns all in one beautiful glossy place is brilliant! 🙂

I gave the book as a birthday gift to my mother last year. I haven’t crocheted anything from it myself but my mum has and in this blog post you’ll see all the different plants she has made. I’m basing this book review entirely on my mum’s experience of this book. She has absolutely loved it and seeing all the crochet she’s been up to as a result of the book has been so wonderful for me to see…

My mother has inspired me in my own crochet journey having crocheted throughout her life including crocheting her own wedding dress in 1974! It’s because of my mum that I grew up surrounded by crochet which must have fed my passion for crochet into adulthood. But she hadn’t picked up her hooks in a while and needed something to get into – this book has done just that. First up she crocheted this gorgeous ‘Red Frills’ succulent which I took a photo of alongside the river in the town of Lewes…

It’s brilliant isn’t it?! 🙂

Each plant in the book has been designed based on a real life succulent or cactus – they look so realistic! There was no stopping my mum and next she crocheted this beauty…🌵🌵🌵

The photos in the book are wonderful… and my mum says she has found the patterns really easy and clear to follow.

My mother is Dutch and has struggled following my own English written patterns in the past! So this book must be brilliantly written for her to understand it so well. I’m aware the book has been translated into lots of other languages too which is great. 🙂

Each time I saw my mum a new cactus or succulent had been crocheted…

And her crocheted garden is growing fast!!

She has crocheted nine of the patterns in the book so far and my mum is looking forward to doing more… she’s not finished yet! They look so good and make the most wonderful gifts.

Seeing how the book has inspired my mum to get crocheting again is just fabulous. And together with clearly written patterns, fabulous designs and beautiful photography, it means this book really is wonderful and one that I can wholeheartedly recommend! 🙂 🙂

And here’s my mum together with my daughter… they both crochet and they both support me so much with my own crochet which is really special! ❤️❤️❤️
