My hooks have busy! And sometimes there’s a design that comes off my hooks that I have a particularly soft spot for… and these Mermaid Angels are one of them… 🙂 I’m really happy with these!
They are in the latest issue (Issue 89) of Simply Crochet magazine… I was designing and making these back in a hot July! It’s so lovely when a magazine design can finally be revealed and here are the mermaids photographed by the magazine team…
And one made it onto the front cover too! 🙂
I’ve been sharing them over on my Instagram and Facebook this week… I love how they they look amongst my other posts this week…
I designed them as a coastal inspired Christmas decoration… but of course they can be used for all times of the year… 🙂
You all know (of course) that I love the coast and last year I designed my set of ‘Coastal Christmas‘ decorations…
And I really wanted an angel too… but a coastal angel! Mermaids are such wonderful mythical seaside characters. I love the story of ‘The Little Mermaid’ by Hans Christian Andersen, as well as the Disney film version. And then I’ve heard one of my favourite things, seaglass, referred to as ‘mermaids tears’ before! So I have a love for mermaids but what if I gave them wings too… is there such a thing as a Mermaid Angel? 🙂
I loved the idea… thinking I’d come up with something truly unique I put ‘Mermaid Angel’ into a ‘Google Images’ search and to my surprise yes, there seem to be lots of Mermaid Angels out there… these five pictures were taken from my search on Google Images…
But I didn’t come across any crocheted ones! So I got designing…
I used one of my very favourite yarns for this kind of small project – Scheepjes Catona which is 100% cotton. The range of colours is just amazing and I designed my Mermaid Angels in four different colour ways…
They can be used as hanging decorations or without the hangers, simply as little toys…
And of course they can be made without the wings too, if it’s just an ordinary Mermaid you’re after… 🙂
I love my mermaids but they don’t have any names yet…suggestions are very welcome!
Hope you like them as much as I do… Happy Crocheting Everyone! 🙂 🙂
