Crochet updates…

Hello Everyone… I post regular ‘Coastal Crochet’ updates over on my Instagram and Facebook but of course I realise that many of you lovely readers may not use Instagram or Facebook. So in this blog post I’d like to give you all a round up of what’s been on my hooks and other crochet news too… 🙂

My ‘Changing Tides‘ blanket crochet along starts in 4 weeks! I’ve been really busy behind the scenes getting the patterns finalised as well as organising some step by step photos and a few YouTube tutorials… 🙂

Some of you may remember I took part in the Simply Crochet Magazine  ‘Designer Challenge’. Well I was very happy that my cat themed mother’s day card won the challenge! 🙂 Thank you so much to everyone who voted for my design, I really did appreciate it. And I also have to give a massive shout out to the fabulous Heather from Keep Calm and Crochet on uk who was in the challenge with me. I loved her butterfly design so much and it was fabulous to be in the challenge together with her…

I’ve been hosting crochet workshops locally which is something I really love to do… meeting some of you in the flesh and sharing the crochet joy together is a wonderful thing! I hosted a ‘Crochet Flowers’ workshop at YAK in Brighton last week and it was so enjoyable… everyone went home with at least one completed flower! 🙂

I’m hosting a ‘Crochet Bunting’ workshop at YAK on Sunday 7th April from 1pm – 3.30pm which I’m looking forward to. I plan to encourage everyone to be really creative with crochet triangles so all kinds of unique bunting can be made…

I’ve designed some Easter Eggs for ‘Crochet Now’ Magazine and the free downloadable pattern is available over on their website. 🙂 I was crocheting these back in the autumn whilst on holiday in Cornwall… the Cornish coast provided a beautiful backdrop don’t you think..

And I’m going to be hosting workshops at a new location for me… Made and Making in Hassocks, West Sussex. I went up to meet the owner and see the workshop space… it’s a wonderfully light and airy craft space alongside a garden centre so really perfect for hosting workshops!

I love this technique that is based on Tunisian crochet but uses an ordinary crochet hook. It’s a perfect introduction to Tunisian crochet.

And on Sunday 30th June I’m hosting a ‘Crochet Pebbles’ workshop…

In the new issue of Simply Crochet Magazine which is out this week (Issue 82) there’s an article called ‘Hooked On Books’ which is all about further education in crochet. It’s a great read… 🙂

For those of you who have been following my blog from the early days you will remember that back in 2016 I completed Part 1 of the ’International Diploma in Crochet’. I’ve been slowly working though Part 2 and hope to complete it by the end of this year (I’m not sure if that’s a realistic goal though!)

I was asked to contribute to the magazine article because I am a designer who has undertaken a more formal crochet course and in the article I share some of my thoughts. I was also asked to provide a photo of me crocheting for the article! And here it is…

The birds may be made in various ways from various materials: knitting, crocheting, quilting, embroidery, felting, drawn, dyed as long as it is made of textile, wool, yarn, etc. With a hook or loop to put it on a line.

Size is max. 25 cm high and 15 cm wide

Deadline is 31 May 2019.

The longest line of birds will be presented during the Textiel Festival Weerribben on 14, 15 and 16 June 2019 and all submitted birds will form a whole. The theme of this festival is “Strange Birds”.

Afterwards all birds will be donated to several charities.

Well I certainly plan to make a bird… here is a seagull I crocheted a couple of years ago… I plan to design something quite different for this festival though. 🙂

I said to Esmerelda that I would share more about her plans on my blog so maybe some of you will make a bird and send it off too! 🙂
