California Coast Shawl

This design has been on my hooks for a while and I’m so pleased to finally be able to release the pattern for my ‘California Coast Shawl’…It’s taken longer than planned so thank you for being patient those of you who have been waiting after I shared images way back in October over on Instagram 🙂A lot of work has gone into this design so it’s a pattern I am charging for and its available to buy over on my Ravelry and Etsy stores. It’s 12 pages long as I have included a lot of step by step photos to accompany the written pattern.

I’ve said before that I’m a huge fan of independent yarn dyers and Kirstyn from Miss Moffat Yarns dyes yarn in beautiful coastal inspired colours. Remember my Sea Shells Clutch Bag…

Earlier in the year Kirstyn shared photos over on her Instagram from a Californian Road Trip she enjoyed and this inspired her to dye some yarns which she named the ‘California Coast Mini Set’. I fell in love with them as soon as I saw them and ordered myself a set…

Having been inspired at Yarndale, especially by the wonderful Lynne Rowe who had a knitted shawl using mini skeins on display, and also the vast amount of mini skeins available, I wanted to design something that would use all 5 mini skeins… so a new shawl idea was born which I couldn’t wait to get started with! As a designer I’m always jumping around with designs and projects! And I hadn’t even wound all the skeins into balls before I got started…

I finished the original shawl back in October and during the half term holidays we went to Cornwall which provided a perfect backdrop for some photos… not California I know but still beautiful! But I wanted the pattern to have lots of step by step photos to accompany it and I hadn’t taken many whilst making my first shawl! So I decided to make another and make sure I took the photographs as I went… 🙂

This time I used yarns which I had bought at Yarnale from River Knits and the step by step photos were taken…And I finally finished it this weekend!I’ve called it my ‘California Coast Shawl’ as it was Kirstyn’s mini set that inspired me to make it in the first place… But the weather today along our Sussex coast is far removed from what I think of when I think of the Californian coast!

It’s been wet, grey and windy today and my son came down to the beach to kindly take some photos but the first photos weren’t too great as that hair couldn’t be tamed in that wind!! But a sheltered spot on the beach, backed by pebbles gave better results…

So there you have it… my ‘California Coast’ Shawl… I hope you like it and thank you as always for reading… 🙂

Happy Crocheting Everyone! 🙂
