I recently received yarn from Marriner Yarns and wrote a yarn review which you can read about here. I also agreed to make some new designs using the yarn…
My favourite yarn is the ‘Empress Chunky’ which comes in a range of amazing coastal inspired colours and I was really keen to use it for some new designs. I used the Lagoon colourway…
And the designs I’ve created are a ‘One Ball Hat’ (yes this cosy Pom Pom hat really does use just 1 x 100g ball of Empress Chunky!)…
And a matching ‘Chunky Triangle Shawl’ (which uses just 3 x 100g balls!)…
The colour changes in the Empress Chunky yarn are so gorgeous and therefore I’ve created the designs using simple stitch patterns… it’s all about the yarn in these designs! Which means they’re perfect for beginner crocheters too. The Hat and Shawl are fun, simple and cosy designs which I’m really pleased with…
And they’re perfectly timed too as the weather forecast has told us we have cold weather on the way this weekend…
The hat is easy to crochet in one evening… my family really liked it and I have a little queue of people wanting one! I’ve already crocheted another in the Sandcastle colourway… isn’t that just a fabulous name for this colour…
I’m offering both these designs for free and here they are…
Chunky Cosy Coastal Triangle Shawl
Enjoy! 🙂
It’s been hard to photograph the shawl in its entirety – it measures 190cm across but I just about managed it here…
It’s super cosy…
Thank you Marriners for introducing me to this fabulous yarn… 🙂
And Happy Crocheting Everyone… 😊❤️
Is there a link to order the yarn please so the company recognise that your posts have lead to the purchase?
Thank you😀
Awww, that’s so thoughtful of you Rachel! Thank you so much- I really appreciate that… but no there’s no agreement like that… so feel free to order away! 😊❤️❤️❤️
Ok thanks, really enjoy your blog, especially as I am also (east) coastal and also have a T5!

Thank you! The yarn is really beautiful… 😊💙💙💙
I love the colours. Is the yarn available in Australia?
Hi Sue… the colours are gorgeous! I’m not sure if the yarn is available in Australia… maybe contact them direct and ask because it would be good if they did!! Thank you… 😊❤️❤️
Those hats are great, but I especially like the Lagoon colourway. And the shawl is just perfect.
Thank you so much! 😊❤️

You’re very welcome Elaine! 😊❤️
Oooooh they are gorgeous!
Thank you so much! 😊❤️❤️
Hi Eleonora, thank you so much for the pattern. I was just about to search Ravelry to find just such a triangular scarf pattern, so it was great timing! I am making it as a scarf for my 8 year old granddaughter in 4 ply cotton with a 4mm hook. I will be sharing on Instagram and my blog, but I just wanted to check with you if it is ok to put a link to your pattern on both or would you rather I didn’t.
Hi Sandra… how fabulous! Thank you so much for asking and yes I’m very happy for to share away and put up links… hope you like making it! 😊💙💙
Oh yes I’m loving making it. I had a bit of trouble working out the placement of the next st after ‘2ch’ at the beginning of decrease rows, so ideally a photo of that bit in detail might be useful – I hope I got it right!
Ok, thanks for the feedback Sandra… will try and put a photo up on the blog later… it’s basically the same st you would normally crochet into… the next one among from the tch… the decrease is made when you just don’t crochet into the 2ch turning chains at the end of the next row… hope that makes sense!! Xxx
Does this shawl have it’s own hashtag?
Good question! Let’s go for #cosycoastal 😊❤️
Just ordered my 4 balls of Empress Lagoon shade, just love the colours and can’t wait to make the hat and shawl, thank you so much for your free patterns. F.Y.I; Sadly the Atlantic colourway is no longer available, that’s a shame as that also looked good.
How fabulous Susan… glad you like the patterns – you’re very welcome… Enjoy them! It’s a shame they’ve reduced the number of colours available…
