Happy Friday Everyone! Some of you may have noticed that my blog has had a little facelift. Everything’s still here but it just looks a little different… it was time for a few tidy ups and changes! Hope you like it… 🙂
There’s also something new in our blanket for week 21… 🙂 I wanted to capture the cliff top flowers that come to life and cling to the cliffs in bursts of colour in the spring months. So that’s what has inspired these rows with the pops of pink through the green and then the pink bobbles on a purple background…
But first here’s the usual round-up of blankets being shared over on Instagram
And a special mention must go to the lovely and talented Esther from Esthersunday1 – not only has she shared her wonderful photo with the pile of logs above but just look at her AMAZING artwork that she shared over on her Instagram account- it brought a huge smile to my face when I saw it! It’s a picture she’s made of herself crocheting our blanket! 🙂 🙂
So the first set of rows for this week are a set of 3 and I’ve done a YouTube tutorial for these rows if that helps…
At the end of Row 85 you should have joined with a new colour and made 3ch which counts as the first tr of this next row.
Row 86 Miss 1 st, 2tr in next st, continue with (miss 1 st, 2tr in next st) to end finishing with 1tr in final st, DO NOT TURN work, remove hook and place a stitch marker in the loop on hook (89 groups of 2tr with 1 tr at each side)
Row 87 Go back to beginning of Row 86 and join with a new colour in top of 3 ch, 1ch (counts as first dc – you may want to put a stitch marker in this ch so it is easier to recognise as a stitch when crocheting back into it on next row), 1dc in space between first st and next 2 sts, continue with (2ch, miss 2 sts, 1dc in next space) to end, 2ch, miss 2 sts, 1dc in final st rejoining with the colour used in row 86 and pulling through the loop on the stitch marker at last stage of final st, 3ch, turn
Row 88 2tr in next 2-ch space, miss next st, continue with 2tr in each 2-ch space to end of row, miss 1 st, 1tr in final st joining with a new colour, 1ch, turn
And now for the bobbles…
Here’s how to ‘Make a Bobble’ (MB) by completing all the following in the same stitch: join a contrasting colour yarn by putting it *yarn over hook (yoh), insert hook into st, pull contrasting yarn through to front, yoh, pull through 2 loops, repeat from * 4 times (you should now have 5 contrasting colour loops and 1 main colour loop on hook), pull main colour yarn through all the loops on the hook (1 bobble made), continue with main colour, push bobble towards front of work, carry contrasting colour yarn along behind work and crochet next stitches around it to bring it along invisibly behind the work.
Remember I did a YouTube tutorial to help with those bobbles…
Row 89 (The right side of the work is facing so the bobbles are pushed towards you) 1dc in next 2 sts, 1 MB, 1dc in next 5 sts ensuring you crochet around contrasting colour yarn to bring it along invisibly behind the work, continue with (1MB, 1dc in next 5 sts) to end finishing with 1dc in last 2 sts (after final bobble made), 3ch (counts as first tr of next row), turn (30 bobbles)
Row 90 1tr in each st to end, join with a new colour at end of final st, 3ch, turn (180 sts)
And next week there will be some new stitches too… Enjoy! 🙂
Great inspiration! And I love the pair of octopuses in the bottom right hand instagram pic 🙂
I love them too! They’re great aren’t they… 🙂
sorry, meant left hand pic!!
Hah ha… I knew which you meant! 😉 x
I’m a bit confused. On row 87 we joined a new color for the bobble, but it says to be sure and cover constrasting color as you crochet, but I don’t know what color you mean. Even in the picture on here, the color before the bobble isn’t used again. And the next row is different. Unconfuse me please! 😉
Looks like you’ve worked it out… but yes it’s the two colours used on the bobble row. One for the bobble and one for the stitches in between! 😊❤️
Never mind! I figured it out..duh…..(note to self, clean glasses daily) Sorry! 🙂
No worries at all! Happy to help anytime! 😊💕💕
Love how all our blankets are turning out 🙂
Thank you so much! I love them too… 😊❤️❤️
Nice to see the new colour pops and great to ‘see’ Esther – what a fab drawing!
Thanks Tinaor… it’s great isn’t it! 😊❤️❤️
I started just over a week ago after joining late to this my 1st ever CAL . I’ve caught up & looking forward to next instalment .
I’m loving it thank you
That’s fantastic Ruth! Lovely to hear… 😊❤️❤️
As a new crocheter, I’m having a wonderful new adventure with your blanket, learning everything as I go. I’ve been doing it a month since the beginning of this year and can’t tell you how pleased I felt when I was able to do the bobbles on this row smoothly and without looking up the tutorial. A real sense of accomplishment.
Thank you for making this learning such fun – and so lovely discover this wonderful community of crocheters too!
Clare (from Seven Sisters in London, not nearly so beautiful!)
Hi Clare… so lovely to hear from you and thank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely comment! I’m really glad that you’re enjoying it and that you’ve mastered those Bobbles!! 😊💙💙
Each row has had 180 stitches so far, but in row 87, ch2 sk2 1dc, I end up with 270! Should it be ch1 sk2 1dc?
Hi Christine… the pattern in right. You are making 1dc into each space only with 2ch inbetween. On the next row you will be crocheting 2tr into just the 2ch-sps which will bring your stitch count to 180 sts. I see that a stitch count at the end of Row 87 would be helpful and I’ll try to add this in at some point! Thanks for pointing it out…. good luck! 😊❤️
Thank you so much. You’ve created fun for so many with this project!!
