For Week 16 (and for 1 week only 😉 ) we have a total of 6 rows! 🙂 This is because I release the first 2 rows for each week every Monday over on Instagram and felt that the ‘Basketweave’ stitch which this week begins with was best released as a full set of 4 rows so that the full effect can be enjoyed…so that’s what I did and I thought I would still release 2 rows today – hence 6 in total… 🙂 🙂
But before we get onto this weeks rows, here’s the usual round-up of blankets from Instagram ….fabulous aren’t they!? 🙂
So the first 4 rows for this week are ‘Basketweave stitch’… I love this stitch effect which is created by crocheting combinations of Raised treble front and Raised treble back stitches. The result is really effective and like all crochet, surprisingly simple to do!
And why did I choose these rows for our Seaside Blanket? Well baskets of all kinds are so useful to have on the beach or by the seaside! Picnic baskets for lunch, baskets to carry your swimming things or baskets to use for putting any beachcombing finds in. And of course there are baskets made of beautiful sea grass… for me baskets conjure up a coastal vibe and feeling!

Here goes…
Remember I use UK crochet terminology. tr: treble is a US double crochet, htr: half treble is a US Half double crochet,
RtrB: Raised treble Back: complete a treble st as normal but insert hook around the stem of the next st inserting hook from right to left going from the back to the front and then round to the back again.
RtrF: Raised treble Front: complete a treble st as normal but insert hook around the stem of the next st inserting hook from right to left going from the front to the back and then round to the front again.
So at the end of row 63 we joined with a new colour and made 2ch which counts as the first half treble (htr) stitch of this next row…
Row 64 (RS) 1RtrF around each of next 3 sts, (1RtrB around each of next 3 sts, 1RtrF around each of next 3 sts) to last 2 sts, 1htr in each of final 2 sts, 2ch, turn
Row 65 1htr in next st, 1RtrB around each of next 3 sts, (1RtrF around each of next 3 sts, 1RtrB around each of next 3 sts) to last st, 1htr in final st (in the top of the beginning 2ch from previous row), 2ch, turn
Row 66 1RtrB around each of next 3 sts, (1RtrF around each of next 3 sts, 1RtrB around each of next 3 sts) to last 2 sts, 1htr in each of final 2 sts, 2ch, turn
Row 67 1htr in next st, 1RtrF around each of next 3 sts, (1RtrB around each of next 3 sts, 1RtrF around each of next 3 sts) to last st, 1htr in final st (in the top of the beginning 2ch from previous row), join with a new colour at end of final st, 4ch (counts as 1st dtr of next row), turn
And for our final 2 rows for this week it’s back to my beloved ‘Long Wave’ Stitch… just two rows to complete our first wave… 🙂
Row 68 1tr in next 2 sts continue with (2htr, 3dc, 2htr, 2tr, 3dtr, 2tr) and repeat to end, the final st will be a tr, 1ch (counts as first dc of next row- you may want to put a stitch marker in this ch so it is easier to recognise as a stitch when crocheting back into it after next row), turn
Row 69 1dc in each st to end, join with a new colour at end of final st, 1ch (counts as first dc of next row- again you may want to put a stitch marker in this ch so it is easier to recognise when crocheting back into it after next row), turn
And that’s’ it!

This is a new stitch for me, so I’m excited to learn this Eleonora. I just wanted to let you know I’m still up with the play, but taking time off from all forms of social media except blogging. I have found many extra hours in every day as a result. And I’m still loving this CAL!

Really enjoying doing this (from the sunny Cayman Islands!) but I’m obviously missing something with row 64. I’m sure my maths is letting me down but if you have 180 stitches and the repeat in the parentheses is 6 how do you fit in the last two stitches and the first 2ch – wouldn’t that be 183 stitches? I sure it’s obvious but I’m just not seeing it and it’s throwing me off for the rows following! Thanks so much
Hello there! Lovely to hear from you in the Cayman Islands! So the basket weave (row 64) is in multiples of 6 but there is one extra set of 3 at the end plus to keep consistent with the 180 stitches, the 2ch at the start of the row counts as 1htr. Then at the end of the row we are left with 2 stitches in which to work a htr in making up the final 3. So 29 x 6 sets, plus the 1 x extra 3 stitches set and the 1 st and the start of the row and 2 sts at the end of the row = 180!! Hope that makes sense! 🙂
