Another week has flown by, can you believe it?! And this week we see a couple more rows of Granny Stitches and then the bobbles are back too!
But first it’s round-up time and the hashtag #seasidestashbustingblanket is approaching 2000 photos over on Instagram now which is absolutely amazing!! It’s great to share progress and see all the different colours… Many of us enjoyed some sunny weather over the weekend and the blankets are going outside… yay! And they’re big enough to drape over chairs too…
So we start this week with 2 more rows of Granny Stitches… I’m still thinking granny square blankets in beach huts and ice cream flavours. Mine are plum and vanilla this time! 🙂
So at the end of row 59 we joined with a new colour but DID NOT made a turning chain. Remember it’s UK crochet terminology (ss=slip stitch). Here are some close ups which may help with the beginnings and ends of the rows…
Row 60 1ss in next space, 3ch (counts as first st), 2tr in same space, continue with 3tr in space between each 3tr group to end, including final space between the last 3tr group and the last single tr st, join with a new colour at end of final st, 3ch, turn (60 x 3tr groups, 180 sts)
Row 61 Miss 2 sts, 3tr in space between each 3tr group to end, miss 2 sts, 2tr in final st, 1ch, turn (59 x 3tr groups with 1 tr at start of row and 2 tr at end, 180 sts)
And now the bobbles are back! These Bobbles can represent all kinds of things in our seaside story! My first row of bobbles reminded me of pieces of seaglass, the next row was sunsets over the sea but they can also be buoys floating at sea or ball games on the beach!
This time my Bobbles represent splashes of water on the sand…
Here’s how to ‘Make a Bobble’ (MB) by completing all the following in the same stitch: join a contrasting colour yarn by putting it *yarn over hook (yoh), insert hook into st, pull contrasting yarn through to front, yoh, pull through 2 loops, repeat from * 4 times (you should now have 5 contrasting colour loops and 1 main colour loop on hook), pull main colour yarn through all the loops on the hook (1 bobble made), continue with main colour, push bobble towards front of work, carry contrasting colour yarn along behind work and crochet next stitches around it to bring it along invisibly behind the work.
Remember I did a YouTube tutorial to help with those bobbles…
Row 62 (The right side of the work is facing so the bobbles are pushed towards you) 1dc in next 2 sts, 1 MB, 1dc in next 5 sts ensuring you crochet around contrasting colour yarn to bring it along invisibly behind the work, continue with (1MB, 1dc in next 5 sts) to end finishing with 1dc in last 2 sts (after final bobble made), 3ch (counts as first tr of next row), turn (30 bobbles)
Row 63 1tr in each st to end, join with a new colour at end of final st, 2ch, turn (180 sts)

YAY week 15 is here! While I have been waiting for this, I decided to crochet your lovely flowers. Now I have a lovely vase of roses, bluebells and daffodils to brighten up these dull autumn days as we head towards winter. Can’t wait to get started on wk 15 tonight. This blanket is turning out to be something very special to us. I’m disabled and needed a hobby so found crochet. This is my first CAL.
Each row is special. My son has Asperger’s syndrome. A form of asd. He chooses each colour. We tell a story for each row about the seaside. This is going to be his blanket. 😊🌞🌊🍧🏖

Is the pattern based on a stitch count multiples of 3? I apologise if this has been asked before (I did not know how to search here) – at this stage I only need to make a baby blanket.

Hello Yvonne… thank you so much for visiting my blog and your kind comment! No there isn’t a stitch multiple because I am making this design up as we go along and I’m adjusting the stitch patterns on each row to keep consistent with 180 sts. However I know lots of people are making it smaller. So long as you keep consistent with your stitch count and adjust the turning chains (as you may end with a different st to me) it could work! What is the best way to sew all the ends in on the stash buster blanket.
Lots of different options but I simply weave them in one way and then back before cutting. 🥰
