Seaside Stash Busting Blanket – Week 13

It’s week 13…wow! 🙂 And I’m soooo happy to see that this Crochet Along got a little feature in this months Crochet Now magazine! Have a look… 🙂

And just look at this weeks round up of blankets which have been shared over on  Instagram I included photos that people have taken of their blankets on beaches or near water all around the world! Isn’t it amazing… it really makes me smile! Just in this round up we have a beach in Auckland, NZ, a beach in South Africa, a beach in Scotland and just look at that lake in Utah, USA! I love it…

So onto the rows for Week 13. Firstly we have a repeat of some of my favourites which we’ve used a couple of times already earlier in the blanket. These rows resemble sunsets over the sea or as a couple of people have pointed out- little crabs scurrying across the sand! 🙂 Remember it’s actually made up of 3 rows…

At the end of Row 50 you should have made 3ch which counts as the first tr (US dc) st of this next row. I continued with the same colour but of course you can introduce a new one if you wish! It’s UK terminology and remember I did do a YouTube tutorial for these rows…

Row 51 1tr in each ch-sp and in each st to end, DO NOT cut yarn at end of row but do join with a new colour at end of final st, NO turning ch, turn
Row 52 1tr in next st, continue with (1ss in next st, 1tr in next st) and repeat to end, fasten off yarn, DO NOT turn work
Row 53 Go back to beginning of Row 52 and pick up / re-join the yarn used in Row 51, 3ch (counts as first st), continue with 1tr in each st to end, join with a new colour at end of final st, 3ch (counts as first tr of next row), turn

And the final rows for this week are something completely new- it’s popcorns!

I’ve chosen these rows together with these colours on my blanket to represent the pebbles we have on our local beach! We have pebble beaches and I couldn’t do a seaside blanket without them! I’ve also done a YouTube tutorial for these rows if you think that would help…

Popcorns are worked differently to Bobbles and protrude more and don’t flatten easily so they’re perfect for resembling pebbles!

Here’s how to make a Popcorn: 4tr in the next st, drop the loop from the hook, insert hook from front to back (when RS of work is facing) or from back to front (when WS of work is facing) in first tr of 4-tr group, pick up dropped loop and pull through the first tr.

Row 54 (1 Popcorn in next st, 1tr in each of next 3 sts) and repeat to end, there will be 2 tr sts after the final popcorn made, join with a new colour at end of final st, 3ch, turn (45 Popcorns with 1 tr at start of row and 2 tr at end of row)

Row 55 1tr in each of next 3 sts, (1 Popcorn in next st, 1tr in each of next 3 sts) to end, joining with a new colour at end of final st, 3ch, turn (44 Popcorns with 4 tr at start of row and 3 tr at end of row)

And there you have it! 🙂 Some beautifully textured rows to add to our seaside theme… 😊

This blanket is a big design project for me but at only 4 rows per week it is manageable! I’m still busy crocheting other projects in the background and I hope to be able to reveal some of those soon…I have some exciting design projects in the pipeline!

But I can share this photo of a stunning yarn delivery I just received… these are hand dyed by Miss Moffat Yarns – I’m a big fan of hand dyed yarns and I have followed this yarn dyer on Instagram for a while and have been tempted by her seaside inspired colourways.

Well this little ‘Seaside Set’ is inspired by ‘Beach Grass’, ‘Sand’, ‘Pebble’, ‘Spray’ and ‘Seaglass’- how could I resist!! I have plans for these little 20g mini skeins…

Thanks as always for reading and… Happy Crocheting 🙂 🙂
