Seaside Stash Busting Blanket – Week 10

Has it really been 10 weeks?! Wow! 🙂 🙂

The blankets are now getting big enough for our furry friends to enjoy and for photo opportunities outside!! So that’s what I looked for in this weeks round up over on Instagram  … from a blanket in the snow, to a blanket on the beach and even to a blanket on a bench in Washington DC! Everyone is doing amazingly and whether you’re crocheting a blanket or just encouraging from the side-lines, thank you all… 🙂

I just want to say a little something about the edges as I know some of you are a little worried as they may not be perfectly straight… don’t worry!! When making a blanket made of different rows which include so many different stitch combinations it will always be harder to keep the edges consistently straight. But at the end of our blanket we will be doing a border which will help… I have an idea for a border which will hide some of those uneven edges! Blocking the blanket edges at the end may also help…

So for the first couple of rows of week 10, I’m thinking sandy beaches with the shells laying on the smooth sand…

At the end of Row 38 you should have joined with a new colour and made 4ch which counts as the first dtr (UK double treble / US treble) of this next row… Remember I use UK terminology.

In this next row we are crocheting into the BACK LOOP (BL) only of each stitch around the shell from Row 38 so the shell is more pronounced. We’re crocheting into the middle stitch between the shells as normal going under both loops.

Row 39 1tr in BL of next 2 sts, 1htr in BL of next st, 1dc in BL of next st, 1htr in BL of next st, 1tr in BL of next 2 sts, 1dtr in next st going through st as normal, continue with *(2tr, 1htr, 1dc, 1htr, 2tr) going in BL of sts and 1dtr in next st going through st as normal, repeat from * to end, the final st will be a htr, 3ch, turn (180 sts)

Row 40 1tr in each st to end, join with a new colour at end of final st, 4ch, (counts as first dtr of next row), turn

And for the next rows we’re going to be doing some more Long Wave Stitch. I love the gentle waves these stitches create…they just capture everything about the ever moving sea! 🙂

 

Row 41 1tr in next 2 sts continue with (2htr, 3dc, 2htr, 2tr, 3dtr, 2tr) and repeat to end, the final st will be a tr, 1ch (counts as first dc of next row- you may want to put a stitch marker in this ch so it is easier to recognise as a stitch when crocheting back into it after next row), turn

Row 42 1dc in each st to end, join with a new colour at end of final st, 1ch (counts as first dc of next row- again you may want to put a stitch marker in this ch so it is easier to recognise when crocheting back into it after next row), turn
