Seaside Stash Busting Blanket – Week 3

It’s the third week of my Seaside Stash Busting Blanket ‘Crochet – Along’ already!

It’s been absolutely amazing to see all your blankets so far! Over on Instagram many people have shared their progress and here are just a few of them…

Aren’t they all amazing! 🙂 And the colours people have used – WOW! 🙂 🙂 Over on Instagram I publish two rows on a Monday and two rows on a Friday so if you follow the pattern on there you get the first two rows of each week a little earlier.

And here are all the next rows for this week. We’re actually crocheting five rows because the last three rows for this week are a set of three which combined give the lovely effect with the coloured strip in the middle.

As I’m using all my stash I can’t stick with only the obvious coastal colours but the colours I’ve used for these rows remind me of all those coastal sunsets when the sky and the sea turn yellow, orange and red!

So following on from last weeks Row 8, we now have to counterbalance those waves so we’ll be crocheting dc’s into the dtr’s from Row 8, htr’s into the tr’s, tr’s into the htr’s and dtr’s into the dc’s etc. So for those of you working with a different number of stitches to me (I know there are a few of you), just remember that.

If you’re working with 180 stitches like me, the last stitch of Row 8 should have been a dc so we made 4ch (to count as the first dtr stitch of this next row)

So here goes: (dtr= double treble, htr= half treble, ss = slip stitch) and remember I use UK crochet terminology…

Row 9 1tr in next st, continue with (1htr, 1dc, 1htr, 1tr, 1dtr, 1tr) and repeat to end, the final st will be a tr, 3ch, turn
Row 10 1tr in each st to end, join with a new colour at end of final st, 3ch, turn (180 sts)

Now these next rows are my favourite so far! It’s a brilliant technique which is really simple I promise but here’s another YouTube tutorial for these last three rows if you think that would help…

Row 11 1tr in each st to end, DO NOT cut yarn at end of row but do join with a new colour at end of final st, NO turning ch, turn
Row 12 1tr in next st, continue with (1ss in next st, 1tr in next st) and repeat to end, fasten off yarn, DO NOT turn work
Row 13 Go back to beginning of Row 12 and pick up / re-join the yarn used in Row 11, 3ch (counts as first st), continue with 1tr in each st to end, join with a new colour at end of final st, 4ch (counts as 1st dtr of next row), turn

And that’s it… a simple but really effective way to create some two coloured crochet without the obvious stripe effect!

Do ask questions and as always Happy Crocheting… 🙂 🙂

  1. A bit late to the party. Lol. But really enjoying the easy to follow instructions, thank. You so much. Can’t wait to see how my blanket turns out. X

  2. Hello Eleonora. I am a fairly new crocheter. I have been crocheting for a little more than a year without too many problems. I am a U.S. trained person. I ran across this lovely pattern and I am dying to give it a try. However, I am stumbling with the interpretation of UK to US translations. Is there a site that has this pattern with the US terminology? I have my fingers crossed. I feel I could handle it if so. Thank you. Sharon
