The ‘Open Waters Tank Top’…

Hello Everyone and Happy 2018! I hope you are all having a good start to the new year…

I’m really pleased to be able to reveal my new design which is also my first garment design –  the ‘Open Waters Tank Top’…IMG_2211

Here are the links to my Ravelry and Etsy stores where you can purchase the pattern.

I bought some yarn a year ago when we were celebrating Christmas in The Netherlands which I wrote a blog post about (a coastal christmas holiday) and took this photo of the yarn…

I had 5 balls of the ‘Claire Nr 2’ which is on the left and I’ve been meaning to use it ever since. It’s a chunky yarn in 50% cotton, 50% acrylic. A couple of months ago the idea to make a simple cropped tank top based on Filet crochet with an open ‘bars and lacets’ design popped into my head and away I went! I’m super pleased with the end result and I actually really like wearing it! 🙂 🙂

I wrote the pattern up but then realised that the Claire ‘Nr 2’ yarn is not easily available in the UK. I searched high and low online and found a couple of suppliers but stock was limited and the blue colour was no longer available. I didn’t want to write a pattern based on a yarn that is no longer available so I searched for alternatives.

I tried both Paintbox Yarns ‘Simply Chunky’ and Stylecraft ‘Special Chunky’ (both 100% acrylic) and the top has worked out well using both of these yarns.

Here my daughter and I are wearing them together. I’m on the left wearing the top crocheted using Stylecraft ‘Special Chunky’ and my daughter is on the right wearing the top in Paintbox Yarns ‘Simply Chunky’.

I have designed the top in three sizes and the pattern also comes with the full pattern in International Symbols.

Do let me know what you think… 🙂

And Happy Crocheting Everyone… 🙂 🙂

  1. Happy New Year, Eleonora. This is a striking pattern to start off the New Year. I think it’s quite unusual to have a filet design in a chunky yarn – it works well and suits both you and your daughter. I should think it’s very versatile too. Etsy and Ravelry shops too! Brilliant! Looking forward to see all your designs in 2018. Jenny xx 🌸🌸

  2. This is a very flattering design! It looks very nice over shirts and would also be great over swimwear in the summer, good for year round wear! I’m so impressed by all the amazing projects everyone creates on here. You are inspiring me everyday to learn more and become a better crocheter!

    1. Awww, thank you so much Yolanda! Happy New Year to you too… 😊 I’m so glad you enjoy my blog! I really love yours too and love hearing about what you’ve been up to with your students! The sharing of crochet and creativity with others around the world is just wonderful and my crochet wouldn’t be what it is today without those connections! Here’s to more in 2018! 😊❤️
