I can’t believe this is the first time that I have crocheted covers for pebbles! I live near a pebble beach with literally millions of pebbles and stones in all shapes and sizes but I’ve not crocheted around them before now. I’ve seen pebbles covered in crochet many times before online and in magazines and it’s been on my to-do-list for a long time…
Well, this weekend I finally did it… I was prompted by this months ‘Simply Crochet’ magazine as there was a pattern in there to “pretty up a pebble or two”. But I didn’t want to follow a pattern so I tentatively started to crochet round a pebble making it up as I went along. However, firstly I needed to collect some stones- this was surprisingly harder than I ever thought it would be- symmetrical round stones/ pebbles are not as common as you’d think!
Here are my first attempts…
And then I got a little braver…
And a little more confident…
And then I tried introducing different colours…
There was no stopping me… pebbles, yarn and crochet hook came with me wherever I went. I even tried a mustard version…
I ended up with 9 pebbles covered in crochet…
They look pretty but what to do with them? Well, some will just stay lying around looking pretty but a few have already been given as gifts. My daughter left primary school today (the end of an era…) and I gave a couple of teachers a ‘paper weight’!
I haven’t written the patterns up for these… if you feel inspired to try some then be brave and experiment! They are all worked in the round with different stitch combinations and lengths of chains until the size of the pebble is reached. I then began decreasing on each round stretching the cover over the pebble before weaving though the stitches on the back and pulling tight so it’s a snug fit.
Why not give it a go… 🙂 🙂
I absolutely adore this! I’ve seen a lot of them around online as well, but it’s been ages since I was at a pebble beach. My daughter (she’s 7) does collect stones on walks, but she won’t let me crochet around them. They are lucky stones she sais 😂

Hi Eleonora. Well done on the pebbles they look fantastic. If you ever have time to look me up on Pinterest I have two or three boards based on pebbles – one called stones I love and the others are stones I have decorated and tips on how to. I went through a phase when I couldn’t stop doing it! It’s fascinating taking the centre section of a doily/mandala pattern and then adapting it to fit. I’ve done some with fine yarn too which allows for more detail. Am hoping these in-the-round techniques will come into play in the IDC Part 2. I’ve just passed Part 1 and am so pleased. Can’t wait to go on the two day course in September and then begin the next stage.

What a wonderful way to accent around the home. I am definitely going to put this on my to do list. I use to live near the Gulf Coast and love Coastal decorating.

These are so cool! Here in Brevard County, they’ve started leaving painted happy rocks around beachside places for people to find, which is fun, but now I’m inspired to try these!! 🤗

Beautiful Eleonora!!! I bet some of the smaller stones would look gorgeous as hanging ornaments – maybe as the weighted end of a windchime!! You always inspire me to look around my own environment for some creative opportunities! Of course it isn’t as breathtaking as your backyard but sill full of lots of colors and textures to get ideas from. I dream of having a view of the ocean from my window someday. 😀 😀 😀

These are lovely. As a knitter, these inspire me to want to have a go at crocheting… but perhaps I need to try something more simple first 😳😂
So glad you like them. I used to knit a lot too until crochet took over! Once you’ve mastered the basics of crochet (chains, double crochet and treble stitch) then these pebbles are actually very simple! Go for it! 😊😊😊
