For those of you who have been following my blog for a while you’ll know that we love to travel in our campervan and squeeze in getaways when we can. And as crochet is such a passion of mine, whenever we go places I’m always on the look out for anything crochet related as well as taking my crochet with me.
A couple of weeks ago we returned from a weeks holiday to Northern Spain where we camped in the ‘Picos de Europa’ mountains. We’ve been to this part of Spain four times before as we love it so much and I wrote a blog post about it last year. Like before we took the 24 hour ferry from Portsmouth to Santander and I made a lot of progress on the rainbow ripple blanket which I started at the end of March.
It was also the first time we took our camping trailer abroad with us which I wrote a blog post about here…
Two of the children sleep in there and it’s made such a difference to our space and storage- the five of us (plus Salty the dog) were really beginning to be squashed in the campervan!
Our days were filled with mountain walks, time spent on beaches and visiting local towns. Because my blanket came everywhere with me it grew so quickly…
The mountains provided a beautiful backdrop for some of my crochet makes and as we were away for Easter my little hanging baskets came too…
We found the most amazing sea glass on a beach in Ribadesella…
We also walked the Cares Trail which is a fantastic trail along the Cares gorge through the mountains. It took us 8 hours to do the trail both ways, a total of 24km! It was challenging and tiring but really worth it – such a stunning walk…
As for crochet around and about, I saw this crocheted dog toy in the vets (which we had to visit with Salty to meet the requirements of the pet passport scheme)…
I’ve not thought of crocheting a dog toy for Salty before- I’m not sure I’d enjoy seeing her chew it to pieces!
Other crocheted things I saw included this bathroom organiser…
These fabulous tapestry crochet bags on a market stall…
An opticians using crocheted animals as part of their window display…
And this window display filled with beautiful things caught my eye – I spotted a crocheted dream catcher…
and these canvas shoes with a little crocheted insert looked fabulous…
Of course when we came across a book shop in Santander on our last day I headed for the craft section. There were so many gorgeous books on ‘Ganchillo’ (crochet)…
As for local yarn shops we found one in Santander on our last day before getting the ferry home…
…but it was closed 🙁 which was such a shame. I would have loved to see the various yarns on offer and treated myself to some Spanish yarn but not this time… They had a notice in their window for knitting and crochet workshops which was great to see.
The ferry journey home provided some more crochet time…

So beautiful Eleonora! I bet it was just awful to return home to your boring backyard….oh wait your backyard is just as gorgeous!!!!! 😀 I made some toys for my pups once and yes it was too sad to see a few hours worth of work ripped apart in a doggie tug of war in less than half an hour! 😀

Just fabulous from beginning to end. Love this post and all that fabulous crochet. My favourite is the bottom bag with the ethnic patterns. I would try that.

Sunshine, crochet, beaches… sounds like the perfect holiday! The easter baskets look so at home with that backdrop, and of course the blanket just looks fabulous wherever it is.

What a wonderful trip to go on and you managed to do so much work! I got my crochet blanket out on atrip to my sisiters but it had been so long I forgot how to crochet. Luckily I took the book I have been learning from lol

That tiny little trailer has made such a BIG difference to us Rosina…we’re no longer squashed into the van and it’s lovely to be able to spill our stuff (and kids) into that trailer! 🙂 🙂
I did that ferry journey many moons ago, still gives me nightmares, must have been a particularly rough crossing as everyone was so sick! I *adore* that cute camper trailer thingy!
