A Day off Work…

I get one day off my work as a nurse per week (in addition to weekends  which we cherish as a family) and this day is so important to me. You may think I spend the whole day crocheting, and much as I would love to, between dropping my daughter off to school (the boys get themselves to school) and picking her up again at 3 pm the day flies by and there’s not that much time for crochet.

As a working Mum of three I use my day off to catch up on numerous household tasks but before I even begin those, there’s our dog Salty to walk.

And this morning that walk was a good start to my day…

As I walked on the hills looking out to sea I could see some ships going about their work…

Back at home, I have completed some mundane chores, and then did a job I’ve been meaning to do for ages. We had a bit of sponge (from an old memory foam mattress) which we wanted to make into a cushion for our bench in the back garden. Today I used some fabric which I bought from Ikea years ago and sewed a cover. I really enjoyed doing it, having been inspired to get the sewing machine out again after watching the ‘Sewing Bee’ on TV. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b03myqj2

I’m really pleased with it and think it looks great…

A few more jobs to do on the computer, including writing this blog, and then I will get to do some crochet. I have about 6 more rows of my blanket to do (hooray!)…

…and then it’s all those ends to weave in. Hopefully it’ll be finished in time for me to share it with you all next week.

In the meantime, Happy Crocheting 🙂

  1. Love your cushion. Did you paint your bench and does it have storage space? Hope you enjoyed your day off. I know that three children and a job are hard slog and creative moments so important!

    1. Thanks Cathy. It is actually a plastic storage bench from Keter. We have a couple of them and they’re brilliant. Everything stored in it stays dry and they’re pretty comfy to sit on too (especially now we have a new cushion!) 🙂

  2. I read this post with interest as today is my first day (5hours) without children for months. There is so much I want I do I hardly know where to start and then there is all the stuff I need to do too! My first treat has been sitting down with a cup of coffee and catching up on blogs I follow, now I’m off to set up the sewing machine I got when we arived here. I love your cushion, the colours are fantastic. I think I need to send if I can watch the Sewing Bee here on catch-up, everyone is talking about it, including the knitwear one of the contestants wears 🙂
