Well here it is at last. It’s been on my hook for a long time and I’m pleased that it’s finally finished- my Tunisian crochet shawl.
My daughter modelled it for me at the weekend. It was rather cool down on the beach despite the sunshine and she said it felt nice and warm wrapped around her neck…
Tunisian crochet produces a dense fabric and I found that it doesn’t crochet up very fast (there’s no holes in the fabric like there is in so many crocheted pieces!) although I did use a 7mm Tunisian hook. The shawl is my own design and I used Drops Paris 100% cotton which I found great value for money and seems to be a lovely soft cotton. I used Tunisian simple stitch throughout and used the two coloured tweed effect which I recently learned. I used a 5mm traditional crochet hook for the edging.
I need to complete four full size projects as part of the International Diploma in Crochet and this is one of the projects I’m going to submit. I’ve invested a lot of time in this project so I hope it meets the requirements. In any case I have a nice chunky shawl to wear and keep me warm!
I’m pleased with the end result and also glad that it’s finished -it’s definitely time for me to move on to another crochet project…
Happy Crocheting Everyone 🙂
It’s very beautiful. I love Tunisian crochet. 🙂
Thank you Yolanda 🙂
Looks very beautiful, I’ve been watching tunisian crochet video too much lately and I ordered many tunisian hooks in the last couple of days😅, can’t wait to start with small projects first.
Nice work!
Thankyou and good luck with your Tunisian crochet projects! I only recently discovered the technique myself 🙂
Oh, how beautiful! Very practical, too, without the holes – it will actually be very warm, perfect for a breezy day on the beach. Good luck with the marking of it for your course:)
Thank you so much, very kind and encouraging words 🙂
Simple yet very effective – I like the way you have alternated solid blocks of solid colour with blocks of tweed effect. Well done!
Thank you so much! Your encouragement is much appreciated. Lets hope it passes! 🙂
Love your Tunisian shawl – the tweed two-colour effect is such a lovely contrast and the rocks show it off so nicely …. not to mention your daughter modelling it! Hope the marking goes well as it looks very professional.
Coincidentally, I am sending off my first full-size project tomorrow … a cotton short-sleeve cardigan in Rowan Cotton Glacé. Setting in the sleeves has not been at all easy so my hopes are not high for a pass. Must write it up on my blog this week. I have also ordered some Tunisian hooks to start on a cushion cover for my next project – I’m going to try to incorporate a fashion yarn with some Aran- weight solid colours.
Good luck with this project!

Thanks Jenny, yes I hope it passes. I don’t mind resubmitting the samples as they are quick to re-do. But a project which has taken a long time to crochet is a different matter. Good Luck with yours too 🙂
What a beautiful shawl. I’m most disappointed that I’ve left my Drops Paris in the UK (I had too much yarn to bring it all) but I did bring a Tunisian crochet hook! I have no idea what size it is mind. Having started to knit, I can see the similarities and see why it takes longer. I will miss English beaches.
Thanks so much. I hope you are settling in well and are enjoying your exciting move abroad. There must be a whole new world of yarn to discover out there!? 🙂
It’s beautiful! I love the effect of Tunisian crochet but I do find it rather frustratingly slow and hard on the hands. I think next time I give it a go I’ll use a bigger hoo!
Thanks Sharon. It’s a great technique but I agree that it’s heavier on the hands. I’m glad to get back to my traditional hook for a while 🙂
great work ! i like the contrast between the 2 colours and the single colour 🙂
Thanks so much Marion. Really kind of you to give such positive feedback 🙂
I love the tweed effect. Lovely.
Thank you ! 🙂
No wonder you’re pleased with it. Very pretty 🙂
Thank you so much 🙂
It’s gorgeous! I keep telling myself that I will teach myself Tunisian crochet but I never seem to have time… Maybe when I finish working on all these CALs I will make the time for it!
You should definitely try it if you get a chance- I’ve really enjoyed it 🙂
