We have just returned from a weeks holiday in Cornwall and Devon – a lovely break was enjoyed by us all. I took my crochet with me and I was able to enjoy some crochet time too which is great! It’s a long drive from the South East of England (where we live) to the South West of England so we chose to break up the journey there and we camped a night in Dorset near the famous landmark of Durdle Door and Lulworth Cove.

It always amazes me that if we drive only a few hours west from where we live we see such a dramatically different coastline. I love our stretch of coast but it’s good to enjoy a change of scenery and it was truly stunning. Of course something so beautiful is hard to keep secret and as expected there were huge numbers of visitors just like us. There is a constant battle with erosion caused by the sea but also the 1000’s of visitors that walk the paths everyday.
During our short stay at Lulworth I was fortunate to be able to squeeze in some crochet time- it was a beautiful place to be crocheting! I sat on the beach at Lulworth Cove and crocheted an edging to the Tunisian Crochet shawl that I have finally finished.
As we camped the night in the local campsite, the next morning we got up early and walked down to the beach before all the other visitors arrived.
We actually had the whole beach to ourselves and it was a magical moment for us to enjoy together. Knowing that in a couple of hours the beach would be full of people once more but for that moment we were the only ones sitting before that wonderful rock formation. A good time to get out the crochet whilst the children, husband and dog explored the beach… 🙂
I’m really pleased with my Tunisian shawl and will show you all the end result soon (it’s currently being blocked).

I went to Lulworth Castle at Easter… storm katie made the Cove too windy to visit, although we did sit in the car park! These photos look amazing and so relaxing 😊
It is a very weather dependant destination! We were lucky. There are no fences by some of the cliff edges so I wouldn’t like to be there in high winds! 🙂

I love that walk from Lulworth Cove to Durdle Door but, as you say, it does get busy. It must have been lovely to have the beach to yourselves the next morning.
It really was! As we left the beach the first of the days many visitors started to arrive. We felt chuffed to have beaten them 🙂
I live in Wiltshire so Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door are a little closer to me, but we don’t drive so it’s a bit difficult to get to. I would love to visit properly some time – I spent a day there about 20 years ago. Far too short!
It was the first time I had ever visited despite driving past on the way to Cornwall so many times. It really was worth stopping there. Such a beautiful place but busy with visitors 🙂
