Happy New Year Everyone!
On my crochet hook at the moment is still the Darcey dress from a Debbie Bliss pattern. It’s gradually getting there and I’ll be able to share the finished project with you all on here soon…
In the meantime I wanted to share this wonderful piece of ‘beach art’ which we stumbled across on Sunday.
Oh how it rained on Sunday! High winds with heavy rain that even our dog refused to go out in! So when it stopped late in the afternoon we were all keen to get some fresh air and took a stroll down to the beach in the fading light…
The sea was still rough and quite a spectacular sight.
Then we saw this tangle of fishermen’s ropes, netting, seaweed and a buoy washed up on the beach. It looked so great with those colours and textures perfectly arranged…
I couldn’t have arranged those materials any better myself. The sea did an impressive job of binding those materials together!
I wanted to pick the whole bundle up and take it home with us to display in our garden but you wouldn’t believe how heavy it all was! Just too heavy to drag home!
Luckily I had my camera with me (something I’m making sure I have with me more and more, having experienced too many “I wish I had my camera” moments!) and I managed to get these photos.
The beach walk really ‘blew the cobwebs away’ and we reminded ourselves how grateful we should be and how fortunate we are to live so close to such a place.
Being confined to the house for the majority of the day due to the persistent rain did mean I was able to get a decent amount of crochet done earlier in the day…hooray!

Turquoise and pink are such harmonious colours, too. Would be a happy find if it wasn’t for the fact that it is rubbish and pollution. You are lucky to live so close to such stunning scenery.

Beautiful colours but such a shame there is so much debris and pollution on our shores. That see looks amazing – you’ve captured it’s mood so well. Must have been a lovely walk, if a little bracing :-0
It was a very bracing walk! And yes you’re right, there is too much rubbish washed up on our shores. I don’t mind the nets from fishing boats so much- it’s the plastic bottles and chunks of palm oil discarded by boats at sea that are terrible. The palm oil can be fatal to dogs if eaten:( Thanks for stopping by 🙂
I agree, I don’t feel as bad about the fishing nets. There is far worse. Don’t know if it made your news last week but the parts of Cornish coast were in undated with pink plastic bottles of Vanish stain remover – many leaking – from a container that fell off a shop last May 🙁

There are few things better than beachcombing and I used to love it as a kid going out with friends in the Thames Estuary. It is a shame about the rubbish but sometimes even that can look beautiful

I agree- I love beachcombing and I was really taken by the beauty of this tangle of nets! There must have been some interesting things washing up in the Thames Estuary! 🙂
There certainly were – a giant conger eel, a skeleton of a ram with enormous horns and one day – glad we changed our minds the day – body parts! The murderer was caught years later, if I remember correctly, because he kept the head and showed it to someone in a pub.
