Advent Tree

Is it really 1st December and the beginning of Advent!? Yes it is!! Gosh, time for me does fly by – there are never enough hours in the day!

I do love this time of year –  I look forward to sharing quality time with family and friends in the weeks ahead. The dark evenings (in our part of the world) enhance that cosy / gezellig (Dutch equivalent to the Danish hygge) feeling indoors. Wrapped in a blanket (crocheted would be a bonus) with a hot chocolate or mulled wine, perhaps watching a film, listening to music, playing a game with the children or extra crochet time is my idea of bliss!

And to start the advent season down from the loft comes my knitted Advent Tree that I made about 6 or 7 years ago. I know this is a crochet blog but I did once do a lot of knitting too. I made it from a pattern in Simply Knitting magazine and here is the Ravelry page it’s featured on http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/sources/simply-knitting-46-october-2008-advent-tree-supplement

I remember the tree knitted up pretty quick- it was the decorations which took the longest and my mother helped me out with these simply to get them done in time.

It’s so lovely- everyday a new decoration gets put on the tree which the children love to do. It will certainly become a family heirloom! Today the first decoration was put on- a snowflake.

As the days go by more decorations are added and here’s a sneak preview of how it will look come Christmas day!

Now I must get back to crocheting…

Happy Crocheting Everyone!
