I’ve received my fourth set of results for samples I submitted for the International Diploma in Crochet and two were considered ‘very good’ whilst two need to be resubmitted. The feedback is again really positive with the need for resubmissions being small but necessary changes that make a big difference to the finished sample. I keep on learning and improving!
However, before I begin with those resubmissions, I already have a further four samples that I have completed and submitted for feedback…
They are:
Any open or lacy pattern using only trebles.
A piece of crochet in chevrons based on trebles
A stitch pattern sample to include a shell or fan stitch and
Any pattern based on trebles to create a heavily textured crochet fabric
And here are my resubmissions that I needed to complete:
This was the sample that needed to be a piece of double crochet using a wide range of hooks with at least 5 hook changes. I previously used 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm but was advised that although my sample was very well crocheted it would be interesting to see the results if the hook sizes ranged from 2mm to 16mm. So this sample has been worked using 2.5mm, 4.5mm, 7mm, 10mm, 12mm and 16mm. It’s amazing to see the difference hook size makes to crochet- this whole sample was crocheted with the same number of stitches and the same yarn, the only changes being made were hook size every four rows!
And this is a network of chain and slip stitch. My previous submission did not have the straight sides required so I have learned to crochet the last slip stitch of each row into the 3rd chain and the very last row is worked with only 3 chains to produce a straighter edge.

The standard must be incredibly high, I couldn’t work out which ones needed to be re-done. I am surprised how much difference hook size makes – good question by Norma!

Interesting! I did this sort of thing for my Level 1 knitting teacher certification a few years ago.
Your work always looks of a high standard. I’ve started the course too and am now at the open and lacy pattern using only trebles. How did you manage an open lacy pattern without some chains? Or are chains in the main body allowed? Hope you don’t mind me asking. Steph x

I’ve had a look back at my part 1 submissions and for the lacy sample using only trebles, chains were not allowed in the main body of the sample- only for the foundation and turning chains. I had to resubmit my first sample as I made that mistake. A simple v-stitch, without any chains between the 2trebles, is what I came up with in the end and it passed. Hope that helps. Good Luck! 🙂 x
