Just a small blog post this week to keep you up to date with my submissions for the International Diploma in Crochet! I’ve now received the results for my third submissions and I’m really pleased to say that I passed them all with good marks- yay!
So straight onto my fourth submissions …
…which are:
A network of chain and slip stitch,
A square of raised treble rib,
A square of double crochet rib and
A piece of double crochet using a wide range of hooks with at least 5 hook changes – I used 4mm, 6mm, 8mm, 10mm and 12mm.
I’m still awaiting to hear the results of these…
There are 35 samples in total to submit as part of the Diploma plus 4 full projects, one of which needs to be from a commercial pattern. I’m starting to think about the projects and am keen to make the Darcey dress by Debbie Bliss http://debbieblissonline.com/books/simply-crochet/
I bought this book a few years ago and the Darcey dress which is featured on the front cover has been on my ‘to-do-list’ for sometime, so it’s a good excuse to finally make it. However, I’m currently struggling with the tension. I’ve bought the recommended yarn and the pattern says to use a 3.5mm hook but to match the tension in the pattern I’m currently doing a swatch in a 4.5mm hook and it still seems a little small! Can I really make it with a 5mm hook!? Surely my tension is not that tight! Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Happy Crocheting everyone…
Congratulations!
Thank you Norma! 🙂
Well done on your results.
Thank you so much 🙂
Massive congrats! I had no idea there was such a thing as a diploma in crochet – how did you find out about it? I’d love to take part myself!
I have the same problem with tension I’m afraid – I know I have tight tension but, like you, can’t see how it could mean such a change in the hook size 😛
Thanks for commenting! I found out about the diploma online – here’s the link http://www.crochet.co.uk/diploma.htm
It’s not cheap but I really wanted to perfect my crochet and enjoy this kind study 🙂
Thanks so much for the link -I will look into it! 😀
I have had difficulties with Debbie Bliss patterns before. I suggest you go on Ravelry and see if anyone else has made from this pattern and see what they say.
Thanks 🙂
Hope it helps – and congratulations on getting all those samples done so beautifully.
I wish my crochet was so neat, congratulations on getting good marks
Thank you Kay 🙂
