I had planned a blog post for today and it’s nearly ready to go but this morning I read online the very sad news that Marinke ‘Wink’ of http://www.acreativebeing.com/ passed away last Friday after suffering with severe depression. I therefore feel it is only right to use this weeks blog post to pay my respects – she will be missed enormously by the worldwide crochet community.
Having just started out on my crochet blogging journey, I have looked to other bloggers for inspiration and Wink’s blog was beautiful with her heart felt posts and stunning designs.
I am a regular reader of Simply Crochet magazine and recall many of her gorgeous Mandala patterns in early issues. There is a tribute to Wink on their website http://www.simplycrochetmag.co.uk/ as well as their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/simplycrochetmag?fref=nf
Such sad news and my thoughts are with her family and friends….
That is so sad. Craft is a life-saver for many people, a rescue and a therapy through making and using our hands. But I guess for some the darkness permeates too thoroughly and intensely to ever be free of it… Rest in peace Wink.
Yes, so sad that her creativity could not save her on this occasion – rest in peace indeed…

How terribly sad about Wink.
I have suffered from depression on and off for most of my life. It is a disease of the nerves of the brain. Period. Unfortunately, the love of family and friends can’t penetrate into the cancer which is depression. C.S. Lewis once wrote, “Depression isn’t a moral failing, it is an affliction.” Yes. AND we know now it is a medical disease.
Sorry -I know I’m preaching to the choir here with you being a nurse. I was a nurse for 30 some years, too.
So, I’ll climb down off my soap box now with the hope that Wink finds the health in Heaven that eluded her on earth. And also with the hope that her family and all who cared for her do not pick up any burdens of guilt that are not theirs to carry.

I didn’t “meet” Wink until after her passing and just came across this post in February 2019.
The love of my life committed suicide over 30 years ago, and I’ve been dealing with depression most of my adult life.
I don’t know if you will ever see this reply, but wanted to say your words have done more to comfort me than anything else I’ve ever been told. Thank you.

I bought her copy of ‘Boho Crochet’ yesterday and just came across this post! Really sad – I didn’t know she’d passed away. Her creations are so vibrant and full of life and she will certainly live on through her wonderful work.
Crochet has helped me through dark times in my life and I know it does for others. Mental health is not spoken about enough!
